Lund tune + thermostat

I order a Lund tune from beefcake I already load the tune on the car and let say the car feels a lot better now, I also ordered the 160 thermostat to go with the tune. The thing now is I have never installed a thermostat in any car before so I need some help. I have done some research here on the forum but I do not seem to get exactly how its done, so if some one could help me by a step by step of what to do and some pic that would be of great help or even better a video would be even better.
Any help is welcome

Yeah, I have a 170. I'm installing BMR jack rails, Viking shocks and the steeda g trac brace. I'll try to do the thermostat too.

I see that the 170 thermostats include a new gasket as well, but mine is 160 and did not come with one, can any one confirm if the 160 come w/o a gasket or should I call beefcake?

I have the even-flo 160, the box contained the thermostat only no gasket.

The 160's from Beefcake don't come with a gasket. I put one in last week. You can re-use the one in the thermostat assembly that you will take apart. I swung by my local Ford dealer and bought a new, its part # BR3Z-8255-A
I did this because I was going to do the install after the dealer was closed and if anything happened to the original one coming out, I didn't want to be stuck with my cooling system torn apart and drained down. Its a $4 part. The original one came out fine, but I did use the new one.....just because I had it. Saved the original one for a spare.

A cooler thermostat will open sooner and with a tune the fans will kick in sooner keeping the engine cooler.

If you drain the radiator down using the petcock on the bottom passenger side it is an easy not too messy job. You will still have some coolant sitting above the old thermostat, so have a towel or something under it.

For a PP car you need to drop the panel under the nose, 17 7mm screws or so, to access the radiator.

The thermostat housing is right under the intake tube, simple to remove the two 10mm head bolts once you pull the intake.

My car runs at 187 to 192 cylinder head temps now, even on 90 degree days. The Reiche 170 works great with the Lund tune.

Already Lund tuned so the fans come on early as the tune is already set for that. I plan on doing the 170* before the summer. Probably with my first oil change.

Several of us have done it from the top without even draining the system. I used a clear plastic bag (recycling) to catch the coolant while changing the tstat. 10 minute job taking my time, no water left anywhere and no need to lift the car.

This is how I plan to do it as well. I have no desire to remove the PP splitter under tray if it is not needed. Thankfully you can do the oil change without removing it as well.

Question, is the coolant pump mechanical or electric on these motors? I never thought to look. I assume mechanical as I did not see anyone mention the bleeding procedure sequence to activate the pump with the engine off.
