The 2.7 EB would be a perfect motor. That motor in the F150 makes 325HP and 375TQ. It makes an F150 SuperCab 2WD do 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. That's as fast as the EcoBoost Mustang with the performance package. Ford could make that the midrange motor and leave the 2.3 as the base.

If Ford could retune the 2.7 to make, say 350HP and maybe keep torque the same, all while giving the 5.0 a bump in power and torque, it would be the perfect midrange motor.

I have had extensive seat time in a 2015 F150 with the 2.7 (also comes with auto start/stop-maybe another reason Ford wants to use it in the Mustang to bring the CAFE numbers up) and it is no slouch. Torque is pretty much instant and I was able to average 20mpg with the auto start/stop in heavy LA traffic. If it can do that for the F150 imagine what it would be like in the Mustang. I say that mule has the 2.7 with the 10 speed in it.

Or... This could just be some guy who's driving his 2015 S550 to a car show and doesn't want to spend too much time scraping bugs off his front end and exhaust residue from his deck lid. :p

I'd have to agree, that would be my ideal line-up, too:

2.3 Ecoboost 4 @ 310hp
2.7 Ecoboost 6 @ 350hp
5.0 Coyote 8 @ 465hp (assuming DI/DPI and some other mods)
10-speed auto option for all

:headbang:

Why would they need to so heavily camo the front/rear, though?
Because any engine/transmission updates may well coincide with a slight refresh of the front/rear fascias

This makes a lot of sense. We've been hearing for a long time that the naturally aspirated V6 is on it's way out, I have even heard it would be gone by MY2017. 2.3 being the new base engine makes perfect sense, many rental companies are already buying the ecoboost models for their fleets. Introduce a turbo V6 to keep the V6 enthusiasts happy, and give it 350-375 like you mentioned. They could even leave the 2.3 in though and keep it at the current tune for the base car and offer a high performance 2.3 with the Focus RS turbo, give it the same 350 hp and you're good. One of these two is what I'd guess this is. And if they drop the V6 and downgrade the EcoBoost (already the current sales leader) to the V6 price, sales will only grow.

Doesn't make sense that they would add a new engine when those 2.7 #'s are only a Ford Performance tune away for the 2.3L. What would make sense is a high performance, special edition EcoBoost model that would replace the V6 mustang. Subtle appearance changes similar to the California Special would be included.

As an already Mustang V6 owner, I'd personally be thrilled about an EcoBoost engine to replace the V6. Don't get me wrong, I love my 3.7 and all the sturdiness it offers and part of me will miss it when I finally make the jump to a 5.0
But I've also driven the EB F-150's, both the 2.7 and 3.5 and Tamadrummer is right! If they put one, or hell even either of those in a Mustang, it'd be a force to be reckoned with as far as it being a stock EB Mustang

Wouldn't it make sense that if they ever came with an Ecoboost V6 it would be to replace the V8 ? Placing a Ecoboost V6 above the i4 and below the V8 would only raise emissions across all the Mustang sales... and aren't they forced to do the exact opposite ?

Knowing a 10 speed automatic is on the way it would be ideal to give the V8 a few more years.

The 2.7 is unique. It's a motor that is actually designed for forced induction (I heard that the 3.5 was just a regular 3.5 and ford decided to slap a couple turbos on it and direct injection and call it the EcoBoost) and it also has auto start/stop, which gives it incredible mileage, and helps to raise the CAFE numbers in the mustang range as well. As we've seen with the 2.3, these motors are easy to get big power out of and easy to manipulate for fuel mileage numbers.

This^^

I'm not sure what power the 2.7l can put down with more aggressive tuning. However, I can't see Ford sticking an option over 350hp under the v8. The 2.3l already makes 350hp/350tq in the RS.

If they bumped up the GT's power to somewhere like 450-475hp, and left the EB as is with 310hp, they could maybe slot a 350-375hp 2.7L V6.

2.3L is supposed to replace the 3.7L in terms of power and efficiency, if left how it currently is, it also outdoes the 2.0L in the new Camaro. Bump the hp in the GT to that of the Camaro, and there should be more than enough room to slot one more engine in.

The problem is that it wouldn't make sense in the aftermarket with tuners, as you can already tune the 2.3 to 400hp. However, I don't think Ford cares about who does what once the car is off the lot, nor does the regular non-enthusiast consumer. I think they'd see that they have options to choose from and who doesn't love options? If that does happen.

Edit: I forgot about the point above. Just because the RS makes 350/350, doesn't mean the EB will or should match that; the RS being a "halo car" and the EB being just a "regular" Mustang to the masses.

Most likely a new Mach 1 would get those specs. :headbang:

Can't see them doing the 2.7 considering that would be really close to the GT unless the GT got the HP bump also. Then I could see that more then likely.

Even if the 2.3 got the RS power, it's still a ton heavier then the RS.

I still think this is a 10 speed mule out with the new front/rear fascia on a GT.

My dad got a new F150 XLT with the 2.7 motor. Holy cow is that an awesome engine. It's a tiny little square in the F150 engine bay but it packs a punch. It has a nice growl to it (even better than my 3.5 EB) and it will scoot that supercrew! It had a snorkel to the front grille for cold air and I was thinking that would work well with a ram air type set up on a Mustang.
