Maybe because the torque rating is so low compared to some other motors that it would draw fire from GM and FCA. Keeping their statement within Ford's motors gives them no risk of that, and it still sounds impressive.

Totally different beast, I dont see why they would draw any comparisons to OHV chevy big blocks or equally large hemis. Those guys love to tout that "hp/l doesnt win races", but Ford obviously though otherwise of this metric.

Good point. They've been avoiding direct comparisons with domestics and targeting Porsche a lot lately. Seems like a lot of import owners are crossing over too.

I'm with kiwiford on this. Is there an AMERICAN made car that has EVER been made, naturally aspirated, with more HP? If not, why wouldn't Ford tout that?

It could be argued that Chevy's L88 produced more, but I think others should chime in on this.

The Viper has 645hp N/A.

Truck engine.
Lambo engine (maybe both)?

Ford is being classy with their comparison is all. No need to compare yourself to others specifically, when you can simply say the engine is your best ever effort, and let the results speak for themselves.

I agree with all of you, but Ford did tout the GT500 in 2013 for having the most horsepower ever (662) for a "production V8" at the time. They will brag when they get the chance.

I recalled a not so flattering article on the Dinan stroker, so I dug it up on the Google machine. Not impressed for $26,000+ and a $10,000 core charge. Hopefully, it was a tuning issue that was sorted out like Dinan suggested.

Unfortunately that article you linked to is misleading with some politics involved.

I wrote this a few years before that: http://www.bimmerboost.com/content....s-RDsport-and-the-History-Reason-for-Stroking

You will notice the RDsport stroker S65 making 441 rwhp which is what a properly tuned example will put down on the stock cams.

The 380 whp range is easily hit by bolt on and even tune only E92 M3 S65's so that goes to show you how useful those stroker dynos you linked to are.

What I want to know is, why oh why is FORD claiming it only as Ford's most powerful production V8. Is there some mystery Chev or Chrysler engine with more NA POWER, that has been measured in the modern way ??!!
Yes. The most powerful production naturally aspirated V8 is from Mercedes-AMG.

Yeah, not sure why so many people bash the Viper and say it's a truck engine? Lamborghini did, after all, design the original V10 engine for the Viper. Just because Dodge stuck the same V10 in a truck doesn't make it a truck engine... or maybe it does? ;)

Another note... the Viper holds the lap record at Laguna Seca (for american production car).

yet another note... My wife's Jeep hits 0-60 in 4 secs (stock)... oh wait, that's another "truck' engine!

"It's a great time for American Muscle..."

p.s.... anyone want to buy a Nissan 370Z so I can put the $$ towards my GT350? ;)

I also hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Ford puts a 5.0 Coyote-variant V8 into trucks as well. The Voodoo is an evolution of the Coyote, soooo there you have it. The GT350 is powered by a truck engine too.
