Chevrolet has had the Engine Build Experience for their Corvette for a few years now. IDK how popular it is considering it is a $5,000 option but it seems like it would be a really cool thing to do. If it was an option would you go for it and if so what would you be willing to pay to do so?

Probably not the engine build for $5K, but I would do the factory delivery for $800

I was thinking $1,000 which includes hotel, factory tour, being able to follow your car through the entire assembly, driving it off the line, a pic with the crew that put it together.

Yep, totally. Though if the engine build were cheaper thank $5k, like $2000 or $2500, I'd probably do that.

Agreed on all points...factory pick up especially should be allowed, especially for Shelby or SVT products.

While on this topic though, I think a large reason why Ford probably doesn't do this is that unlike GM's Bowling Green Assembly, Ford's Flat Rock Assembly plant is way busier. GM only assembles the Corvette there at an average rate of ~3100/month. Ford assembles Mustangs and Fusions at Flat Rock and while I don't see splits for Fusions between Flat Rock and Hermosillo Mexico Assembly Plant (they're not made on the same production lines as Mustangs anyway probably), the production numbers of both cars dwarf Corvette's numbers.

I think they just do too much volume to potentially slow down the lines with personalized touches for those that will spring for it. Don't get me wrong, I'd really like for them to offer it.

That's an excellent point I didn't think of. I think you're absolutely right.

GM has an option to tour BGAP, and an option to build your own engine, but you can't actually pick it up at the factory, as far as I know. There is an option for Corvette Museum delivery, which is just down the road, but you can't get it at the factory itself.

I was in Germany a few weeks ago and visited the BMW Euro-Delivery platform. It was very classy and I knew right then, if I ended up ordering an M3, I'd be picking it up in Germany first ;)

Naw I'm too cheap. I think it should cost less to pick up from the factory. Maybe if they deleted the destination charge I would pay something. Not $1,000 though.

I took delivery of a 335is in Munich several years ago. It's definitely a first-class experience. Doesn't hurt that they knock a good % off the price of the car as an incentive.

It would be great if Ford/Lincoln offered a similar option here in the US for the enthusiast and luxury cars. I'd certainly consider it, especially since I'm going out of state already for my GT350.

They're made on the exact same production lines

Considering that Flat Rock Assembly also builds the Fusion and will soon build the new Lincoln Continental as well, I'd imagine getting the whole crew together for a photo every time one of you wants special treatment is gonna be tough. They're not going to stop the line just to get a photo.

And I would assume if they ever offered something like this, you'd be on the hook for your own hotel. And I can assume they'd never let you drive it off the line for liability reasons.
