Hey guys,

I'm not terribly worried about this, as I believe it's just the car working but when I take off from a stop, and say floor it to 60-70mph. Shifting at no higher than 6200 RPM, my car smells a bit. Hard to describe, I'd say it could be like the clutch, but I KNOW that I'm not slipping the clutch too much or anything. Smells like rotten eggs a bit, or sulfur. My brother thinks it smells like a vacuum cleaner whatever the hell that means:lol:

My car is a GT with the PP, I changed the oil to Mobil 1 at 2500 Miles, it now has 3300 miles. My inlet temp was like 105 after the spirited drive, no worries there right? cylinder temp hovers around 205.

I've taken the clutch spring out, could that be impacting anything? It doesn't have any slack in the pedal.

Anyone else smelling this? gets me worried a bit, I keep checking my gauges and stuff. Thinking my oil is too low or something.

Thanks,
Brice

A rotten eggs/sulfer smell normally comes from the catalytic converters not being able to convert all the hydrogen sulfide in your exhaust. Given that it was after a "spirited" drive, it's probably not an issue. Hopefully you don't smell it after normal driving though; if so you might want to get it checked out.

I took out my clutch spring as well and have had no issues with the clutch not fully engaging.

I did have an odd smell (like burnt rubber) when I first bought the car that I swear came from the sound tube (not sure why, but it definitely went away after I removed it).

Congrats on the 16 BSCN8C!
Thanks for the response by the way. Okay so the catalytic converters might not be functioning properly? I have corsa exhaust but it's only catback so I assume it wouldn't have anything to do with the cats. Are there any other signs of malfunctioning catalytic converters I could watch out for?

Never smelled it after regular driving, only when I hammer down for a bit on the way home... because why not?

Yea I haven't had any problems with the clutch, although when I'm in stop-n-go traffic sometimes I start to feel like a bit of a grinding towards the bottom when I'm compressing the clutch. I can barely feel it, so I'm sure it's just the engagement.

Hmm I've still got my sound tube, might look into that, I've heard its absolutely useless.. Just haven't thought about removing it.

Your cats are fine, after hammering on the car for a minute they just can't keep up with all the exhaust being pumped through them so you get the smell you are talking about. Plus your miles are still fairly low and the cars are new. It will go a way with time though from what I have noticed. I'm at 6k miles now and I would get the smell early on, it's gone now.

Really... that's interesting. I'm glad your smell has gone away, and somewhat glad you had the smell in the firstplace:lol: makes me think I'm less crazy!

Much appreciated, I will make sure to go harder now that I know she's just working herself in:cheers:

I get it every time I mash the pedal too. Its your cats 100% guaranteed and its nothing to worry about as its normal bc your car is new so it happens more frequently.

Nothing a set of long tube catless headers cant fix :D

I appreciate the confirmation! Glad I'm not killing my cars slowly. Man I'd LOVE LT's right now. I'm just annoyed that it would supposedly void some warranty, and the tune would for sure. Prob mod it around 30k miles or so.

If there was a way to keep some warranty and get any kind of LT's on the car, I'd be ordering them this weekend.

I don't know, that does sound (smell?) like a burnt clutch to me. I haven't had this issue on the Mustang but there was one time I let my stepdad drive my WRX. He used to drive stick but hadn't in years. Had to back the car up their relatively steep driveway. He burnt that clutch like I've never smelt before. It smelled absolutely terrible for quite some time. What's worse is that I noticed that the smell would always seem to come back afterwards during spirited driving.

Wondering if maybe you or someone burned up the clutch previously and this is just that smell lingering... I dunno.

Oh man I'd be SOOOO pissed if my brother burned up the clutch. Any way I could tell? I've never had to replace a clutch or anything, this isn't my first Manual, but my previous I only had for a handful of miles.

Does it slip or is the catch higher up on the peddle? If the catch point has changed he could have roasted it :-/.

Nah I haven't noticed much change in the engagement point.. but who knows. He used it for a week while I was traveling.

I wonder if i took it into ford if they could tell me what the repair would be like. Say he roasted it, am I damaging the car by driving it? I hate the unknown.... FML

If it's catching fine and no grinds you are good. When I was learning to launch my Evo I smoked my clutch multiple times and it was fine before it finally gave up the ghost. Hard engagements and slipping under WOT are the big signs.
