I dont even have my hood any longer anyways!
Waiting to come out of body shop / paint.

Nice!!! I"m probably going to replace my vents with carbon fiber. I was checking them out at the AM show.

I don't know how you can see the right turn signal because I cant see my right air vent because of the ridge in the hood.
^^ This. I sit taller than most people. I can see half the diver's side vent, and none of the passenger side vent. These things were a better idea with the flat-hooded '67 cars.

Overall, it looks a lot like the car in my driveway. No regrets here.

I hope everyone realizes that this stuff is just retro styling. Lots of 60's cars had fender and hood reverse facing turn signals. Also the when Ford designed the interior they used aircraft cockpits as inspiration hence the "Ground Speed" on the speedometer and the toggle switches. After all the Mustang is named after the P-51 fighter.
Old enough to remember these features for sure. I just hope they never bring back those god awful tail-fins for any car. I remember clumsily riding my bicycle into one back in 65' and it left a mark.:headbonk:
And by the way, the car is named after a wild horse.

Maybe it's just me, but the car's badge looks more like a horse than a plane.

It's kinda both:

From https://media.ford.com/content/ford...e--no--its-the-ford-mustang-and-one-of-t.html

Different people also invariably have unique interpretations of the same events. In his book “Mustang Genesis,” author Bob Fria quotes designer John Najjar:

R.H. Bob Maguire, my boss, and I were looking through a list of names for the car. I had been reading about the P-51 Mustang airplane and suggested the name Mustang in remembrance of the P-51, but Bob thought the name as associated with the airplane was too ‘airplaney’ and rejected that idea. I again suggested the same name Mustang, but this time with a horse association because it seemed more romantic. He agreed and we together selected that name right on the spot, and that’s how it got its name.

Jeez, so much complaining. Are the hood vents necessary? No. Are they cool? Absolutely! I like the vent turn signals, and the sequential turn signals. It's a Mustang, if everything was super practical we'd all be in base model Priuses.

Complaining about hood vent turn signals

Not necessarily! There is much more to the hood vents than looking cool. They are duel function. One is heat extraction the other release of pressure that builds up under the hood and causes lift.

I agree they are cool, I like them. In fact I'll be replacing my 2016 vents with either 2015's or Roush. Why? Because I think the turn signals are gimickie and largely useless and they reduce the size of the vent opening which reduces their primary function, IMO!

Watch the video starting at the 1:25 mark. Very imformative on the aero design of the original hood vent heat extractors.

I took a picture at the same angle to compare it to the new vent with the signal to see just how much of the vent is blocked out. Answer: A lot.

Ford F'in up again. this would have been a cool idea in the past on the more retro body styles, but not the new ones...

Most people complaining about the hood signals are 2015 owners, great you don't like it. You have a model without them, enjoy it. I don't care for them either but if you want to design the mustangs, go apply to work at Ford.

Thank you for the video.
I'm pretty confident that this was thought over by the Ford engineers.
Perhaps the underside of the hood is redesigned to channel air more efficiently through the vent.
Or, alternatively, perhaps Ford engineers concluded that the '15 hood vent is larger than it needs to be.
Either way, I don't think making it smaller is something that they just did without thought. Especially when they're putting electric components so close to the vent there.

Here's something interesting...here's an OEM takeoff from the underside of the hood vent. Is that the vent opening at the bottom? If so, it looks a lot smaller from the bottom than the opening on the top. The bottom of it looks about the same opening as the '16 top opening.
But I could be wrong and it could be something else entirely.
