My fiance and my best bud are the only people who are allowed to drive the car. They both know how to drive a stick shift and by best bud owns a 2002 gt. i don't even trust a valet parking and always park my own car!

Would let 1 or 2 friends I trust and my father drive it. Currently teaching my wife how to drive stick with it.

I let my 2 best friends drive it cause they both have a better driving record than I (that lead foot yo!) and so I wasn't worried about it. They've only driven it once and loved it but I'd let them drive it again

I also let my fiance drive it every so often since her driving record is also better than mine and every time I do let her drive it, its slowly converting her to wanting a faster and better car instead of her boring Elentra.
This subtle converting process is long and tedious but well worth in in the long run

Now that I recall, the night I picked up the car, she got to drive it first since I was in a rental and "legally" she couldn't drive it when I had to take it back to the lot. So she got the first drive in my Mustang before I did. If you don't count the test drive that is lol

I've never stopped anyone from driving any of my cars. Buddy of mine couldn't believe it when he asked to drive my Cobra and I threw him the keys. It's just a Mustang and anything is replaceable. One of the scariest moments I had in a car is when I was in high school and a friend let me drive his Talon TSI and I blew the intercooler hose off as soon as I got around the corner. I thought I destroyed his car but it was fixed in seconds.

its not really about being a "nancy". To some people a car is more then just a car. Also some accidents, the car is never the same. I completely understand the fear. Its not unreasonable for someone to be like that. Just because you don't get doesn't make it them being a "nancy". Also having your new car potentially wrecked, insurance or not isn't something people are okay with.

Let's see ... My wife drives the stang on a regular basis. I let a good friend of mine drive it (I've also driven his). My 16 year old drove it around the neighborhood. Heck, I even let my 12 year old daughter drive it in an empty parking lot. Now, will I let anyone drive it? Heck no, only those that I trust. I don't mind sharing the experience, but I do have my limits.

for many of us that is a direct correlation...we spend alot of time taking care of the wife and hell of a lot of time taken care of the stuff we own to keep it up.

so NOPE still stands...just because they can and want to doesn't mean they will or should.

I never let anyone drive my GEO METRO, let alone my Mustang. Unless there is an emergency, friends aren't driving my car. It just opens the owner up to liabilities that are unnecessary. I pay for insurance to cover me - not my friends.

Hopefully my ordered gt350 will be here late fall. I have two very good (over 20 years) friends who I will have no problem letting drive my car. Both have many hours on tracks and have considerably better than average skills. Both have the finanances to pay for damage. Both know that I will kick their southern extremities sideways if they do something stupid.

Well, that being said, I let my wife drive mine twice so far. The first time was day 1 of owning it. She looked like a cop fighting over the last doughnut in a box trying to get the shifter to go into its gates.
The next time I showed her how easy it was if you remembered the self centering position is between 3rd and 4th gear.
I was met with "I know how to drive a damned manual transmission!!!" as she shifted from 2nd straight to 5th. "So then why did you just skip 3rd and 4th gear?"

"Shut the hell up!!"

And this folks, is why I don't let my wife drive my car again. And that being said, I have read too many posts here where drivers accidentally went into the wrong gear and it cost them $5K since this kind of driving is not covered under warranty or insurance.
If she can't take some constructive advise on how to drive my first new car ever at the age of 52 years, she can stick to her 4th new car with an automatic. Sorry, I'm a little protective.

I'm selective about who I let drive my faster cars, but my wife is one of them. She likes driving a manual, is good at it, and is more careful with my car than she is her own because she knows how particular I am. The others are only my brothers, Dad, and two lifelong friends; All serious gearheads that know what they're doing.

It would be irresponsible to hand the keys to a 400hp monster to anyone you don't already know can handle it. Dangerous to them and anyone in the car, or on the street.
