Austin Dillion should be dead! How do you survive this?! I'm happy JR won and I'm glad I stayed up to 3am to watch it but holy cow this wreck was sickening. Glad the crowd was ok too.

What's more amazing is how little debris went into the stands.... A lot of lucky people all around.

It was a crazy ass wreck. Glad everyone is OK.

NASCAR needs to come up with a different plan for these restrictor plate tracks. Fans or another driver will end up dead.

They stay bunched up all race and with this new aero package, the cars seem to be even more on the ragged edge.

this again...might be turning left but nascar is a game of millimeters and inches and skill/patience

yeah you do it at 205mph and see if you can keep it out the fence...much less make it 1 lap around the track without hitting someone or the wall that close. no other racing in the world gets as close door to door for 400-600 miles straight. oval racing is an art form... you don't see road guys coming to nascar and kicking ass and don't see oval guys going to road and kicking ass either... totally different skills and disciplines.

well they can't remove the plate because then they'll be doing 230. But if you get hit in the front left corner like dillion did on a banked part of the tri oval, it don't matter what package it is... they going airborne.

it's just crazy. was a great race but that wreck is down right horrifying

Instead of restrictor plates why not lower the engine displacement on superspeedways?

It seems that NASCAR does this purely for the entertainment factor. It's not called one of the greatest spectator sports in the world for nothing.

i don't think flipping cars is apart of their marketing strategy especially when it involves their fans getting hit by pieces of a car.

I didn't say it did not take skill/patience... Just not a fan of left turns all day. Used to like Nascar back in the Bill Elliot/Dale/Terry Labonte days

...but wrecks are. Note the 'necks pumping their fists when they happen.

'Safe' wrecks don't cost NASCAR anything. The teams eat the cost of cars. Wrecks are the only thing really exciting about modern NASCAR racing, and draw people to it. It's naive to think otherwise.

I'm w/ Guard...the engines should be reduced in displacement...maybe even using 'stock', mass produced engines that are sold in current vehicles. Modify to their hearts content.

Oh, and any 'good' driver can race across multiple platforms w/ a little time behind the wheel. A car is a car. No special skills required.

nope

like i said you see indy drivers coming over to nascar and winning any races? much less championships? you see drag racers going to road or oval and winning? nope. you see nascar drivers going to indy or gt cars and seeing them win anything? nope

there is a huge difference between inches between 43 cars on an oval and 43 cars spaced out on a road course and two cars side by side going straight.

just because a "good driver" can drive any car doesn't make him good in all disciplines or worth a hoot. good example: juan pablo, danica, Andretti's, etc.

I'm a hardcore online nascar sim racer on iracing with full racing cockpit, wheels, shifter, clutch, etc... and when i do road racing in a gt car or even a cup car or a truck I am no where near as good as I am on an oval because I've been sim racing since I was 9 years old doing oval back in 1994 on original nascar racing 94. People who are road racers online come to oval and it's same thing, they can't hold a line to save their life... they can't figure out braking points or throttle control. When I go to road racing I have to practice so much just to be able to survive in a race. Just because you can get around the track, don't mean you're good at it.

I don't think it's a coincidence. I agree that winning in multiple series is rare, but I'm not sure that I would pin that on the drivers solely. Teams and cars have A LOT to do w/ it. If a driver is great or puts on a good show in one type of racing, there isn't a lot of motivation to go do something different...which would make sense. If a driver is not so good, the opportunity to do something different doesn't present itself. That, coupled w/ a professional career that may span an effective 20 years...15 or so at peak capabilities if they're lucky...doesn't give much opportunity to move around.

Sorry, I'm not sure what video games have to do w/ this. Braking points are learned per the car, same w/ throttle application. If one can find a line through Monaco, Daytona or Indy sure isn't hard.
