I just looked up current Truecar.com pricing for a base Ecoboost Auto, just to see what they are going for. The TrueCar price is $24,600. Note that they don't include rebates (because some people qualify for different ones). Everybody gets the $500 base customer cash. There's a $500 military discount. $100 Geico Discount. $100 American Express Discount. $500 College Student Discount. $500 Police officer discount. $500 Ecoboost challenge customer cash (everyone can get that one).

Honestly, someone who was, say, a Police officer taking college night classes would have got a BETTER deal than I did.

Just a couple of us are questioning the financial details. I've never heard of someone getting $300 less on a trade in a few months after buying it.

There was another guy on the forum that supposedly took a similar hit as I did, trading up from an Ecoboost. Called his car the "boosted pumpkin" if I remember right. I forget his username though. He used D-plan pricing, if I recall, which is very similar to X-plan (but a little bit less, like 1%, because it doesn't include the regional ad expense).

I would NOT have gotten this deal without the X-plan. The hit in dealer fees and document fees alone would have been nearly $1000 more.

Please don't put words into my mouth (keyboard?). It is a public forum and you are free to ask or even question. But an explanation is not owed to you just because you chose to follow the story and read, or even because you asked. The progression through his story was shared voluntarily, as well as your choice to read the entire story. His choice to answer is voluntary as well. That is what I meant.

Anyhow, if someone did meticulously do their research, then they could get an outstanding deal to start with. The trade in value is not based on the purchase price of that car, it is based on the value, and the dealer's urgencey to get the next sale for whatever reason. Not common (especially for a car purchased at retail) but also not impossible or even improbable.

All my own thoughts, but highly probable that there are errors in my logic. I am not that smart. :headbonk:

Join the Mustang Club of America. Costs $50, and you have access to X-Plan pricing for up to 2 cars per year (not just Mustangs either -- ANY Ford!).

And trading cars is a bad habit for me as well. But I've finally got what I really want, so if anything, I'll just buy a beater truck in a year or two, for truck-ish things and keep this GT for a loooooooong time. My father had his for like a decade, it'd be nice if I could keep this as long! My wife has a nice VW Sportwagen for family and trip duty. So pretty well covered now!

As an FYI, if folks don't believe the price I got on the Ecoboost Mustang... they'd really lose their sh*t if I told them what I got the F150 for. Sticker on the '12 F150 was like $33.5k and I got it for $25k, new, after rebates.

For me, car shopping is like a second job. I research EVERYTHING. Rebates (most people would qualify for more rebates if they bothered to look!). Special pricing, like the X-Plan. TrueCar.com prices. I take pictures of dealer offers and then send them to other dealers to beat, then send that BACK to the original dealer to beat.

If you do these things, you will get a much better deal. MSRP doesn't mean sh*t when it comes to what the car is worth, or what they will be willing to sell it to you for if you do the legwork.

I got $5600 off my 2015 GT PP with a sticker of $46k back in the middle of Dec 2014. This is x-plan plus $2300 in rebates. I was beyond happy.

Xplan is definitely the way to get a Ford if you are not an employee! And totally agree with you, trading in cars too soon is a great way to blow through money. We typically buy something that we believe in and stick with it. Take the time to research before buying to avoid paying later. Before we bought our current stable of cars we had a 2002 Explorer that we bought new (13 years of ownership) and a 2002 Taurus that we bought 1 year old (10 years of ownership).

Now we have a 2013 Fusion and the 2015 Mustang as well as a 2006 Expedition that we just bought used fo towing and bad weather. Will not even think of getting another car until our older son starts driving in 5 years.

It certainly can be. But I always check TrueCar.com, too, just to be sure. TrueCar + dealer fee was lower than X-Plan on the Ecoboost, but X-Plan was lower on the GT. Go figure. The great thing about X-Plan though is it is what it is. You don't need to negotiate AT ALL to get it.

there are dealers out there that beat xplan fyi. might have to travel to get to them but they exist. drove 17hrs total to get mine and was cheaper than xplan by 3k and over 5k off msrp at koons baltimore

Yeah. I saw them. They are pretty much the cheapest in the *country* on cars.com and autotrader. Folks who live closer and don't buy there... lol, they got suckered. But remember, X-Plan wipes out dealer fees and document fees, too. So you save an extra $1000 or so over most dealer advertised pricing. Still... Koons is SUPER cheap.

A manual Ecoboost for $22,600. Super Cheap! Of course, they are probably including at least some of the rebates in that price.
