Any idea or guess as to what performance increases a tune and LT headers would do for the new 5.2 FPC?? Is there still tuning potential with this new motor? I'm really curious to see what Lund and Livernois can do with this motor.
This engine, with very little mods, will rev to PAST 10K rpm, so yeah - lots on the table.

What Im wondering is whether or not they will come out with a true flat plane after the success that the Voodoo will bring.

The 5.2 is a game changer.

I think Ford has left plenty of reliable power on the table.

I think there has been a decent compromise in power just to get the traditional v8 sound also.

A new header design would likely result in at least the power gains seen from Cotote engines if not more.

Ford is likely holding back quite s bit with this first salvo.

And it's still killer.

This isn't a one-off, running on the ragged edge, ultimate effort. It's the beginning of a new platform.

Fingers crossed that they will do to the Mustang what they did with the F150

Why is this one not a true flat plane? Because they are sharing the intake manifold between the 2 banks?

You mean the aluminum light-weighting?

If they can do it with such a high volume vehicle that uses way more sheetmetal than the mustang, I don't see why not.

Wonder what the reason is for the f150 frame shortage is, if that rumor is true...

As it is, even without aluminum all over, there is a lot of room to shed pounds. Add the aluminum and that would be a light car, though the savings wouldn't be as amazingly substantial as they are on the truck.

I can see Ford justifying it on a gt500 or something.

But other than that, they are looking to get the corporate mileage up. Not sure if the Mustsng would be a main target for them. But every little bit counts, right?

Because of the firing order....

A true fp is up down down up and Voodoo is up down up down if you were looki g at the crank

Yep.

Lose a 1000 lbs off the mustang and they will have Mustang shortage as well lol

You really think they detune the engine to leave more for later?
Well, yes, because every engine I can think of that Ford put in the Mustang for the last 35 years always increased in power over time.

Original 5.0
4.6
second 5.0

Not always a lot of gain, though. Nowadays there is a lot more simulation and optimization by PC going on, so they are probably able to wring more out of their original design. Also, there is a lot more competition now, so there is more motivation to get power up. Just looking at 12+:1 compression is amazing to me.

Look at the Nissan GTR.

It made more power on the dyno at the wheels than what they advertised as crank hp

When it first came out, that is

It's easy to add power to a FI car.

It's not any less of flat plane crank, just not the same firing order as the most common flat plane found in the Ferrari.

It is actually....

It still has massive counterweights where a true FPC does not.

But Im not complaining. Im stoked to see Ford take a step in the right direction.

Flat plane crank refers to the geometry of the crankshaft being all in the same plane - which this one is therefore it is a true flat plane crank

it is that simple
