Just wondering what are some of the performance mods to do without tuning. I already got exhaust...I'm thinking maybe getting some handling and suspension upgrades...any suggestions would be appreciated. I was leaning toward springs and handling kit

No offense meant, but start looking through all the threads on here.

In general, the mods that don't require an ECU tune generally will not make any significant power (catback exhaust, cosemtic, suspension etc.).

And the mods that do require an ECU tune (most intakes, headers, the obvious power adders) will make significant power in varying degrees depending on the mod and/or the combination of mods.

Beyond that, I would just be regurgitating all the threads and posts on this forum...so just explore around here and you'll find your answer and good bit more information that will inevitably increase your mod list!

Read up in the suspension section on what Steeda has, I'm very happy with my progressive springs and other items I had installed.

The mod bug never ends! Just make a list like all the mods you want or could want (like of us have done) and make sure you do your research before you fork over your hard earned cash!

OP, you can do many things to make this car more performance oriented. New tires and wider rims is one of the best mods you can do to a car. also, check out Steeda or BMR for more suspension items. springs, vertical links, subframe bushings etc. will all make the car feel more planted. good luck and happy modding!

I'll throw this one out again - if you're not interested, just ignore it. Sign up for a high performance driving class near you. Not only will this double your pleasure in the vehicle, but it might also save your ass in a bad situation. After that, think about taking it to the track. There's a lot of ways you can enjoy your car without buying 'stuff' to tack onto it (not that that is a bad strategy either, but why buy it if you aren't going to use it?).

Yup, the best mod is to improve driving skills, in the UK we have a lot of advanced driving institutes that, while keeping you legal, will improve your daily driving style.

I've invested in a few track day tuition lessons, this makes a huge difference to understanding what your car can do and is capable of doing and what you can do and are capable of doing!

In saying all that and, with 35 years driving experience, I'll still be modding my S550. Just about to pull the trigger on a Catback, I love a powerful car to sound powerful, next on the list is a performance suspension package (probably Ford Racing package), it'll not stop there.

I'm looking for a 'keeper' and the Mustang might just be 'The' keeper, so supercharger is possibly on the horizon.

All this and I'm still at least 12 months from delivery, need to make some room in the garage for storage methinks

I was once told by a retired, professional racing driver, the best mod you can do is to your cars are the brakes, the ability to slow down from a high speed to enable safe and fast entry to a bend, is better than going in too fast and getting out of shape on exit.

Also, in the words of Sir Jackie Stewart, a racing legend of few peers, "don't get on the gas unless you're certain that you'll not take your foot off it on any bend or exit"

Braking ability is key to fast driving/being in full control. I'm sure my cousins on your side of the pond can comment on how the brakes on the S550 perform in this respect, it's something that I'll need to find out for myself, but I'm pretty sure they are awesome on this variant.

Some threads even have the pros and cons and special pricing owners found.

Congrats on the ride..

Now this, is part of my plan and just maybe the most valuable money spent.

Besides, when you go to a track the speed limit will be depending on the course.

Go fast is legal and this time safer.
