It's a fair comparison, sir. I don't see why folks can't compare motors and years.

Stock vs. Stock it's probably a driver's race. Tuned vs. Tuned the Ecoboost probably wins. Full bolt-ons and tune vs full bolt-ons and tune, you're probably back to a driver's race.

But if the 4.6 goes forced induction, then it will win. The Ecoboost can go bigger turbo, but it probably won't keep up at that point.

What's wrong in saying all that?

Because, we've known for years that larger displacement and more cylinders makes for a faster engine…

These types of threads are on every mustang forum out there, they're always started by ecoboost owners, and they all end up the same way…there were tons of them when the 3.7s first came out also.

Probably can't handle a car literally half the engine and a turbo could challenge and beat the old V8

and Mazda 3s are faster than old v8s too, what's your point?

Put any boost on the v8 (which can be done for the price of an ecoboost) and bye…an I4 and V8 are not worth comparing.

This also makes no mention of future value, reliability, or social stigmas, which I'm not going to get into.

Mrbillton, your insecurities are showing.

You can make 4 cylinders just as fast as v8s. It's true, and it's easy. Plus, anything over 600whp on the street is just for dick measuring, as it can never be put down right. Go drive a new gt500 and try to get a good launch on a typical road. And at the drag strip? A 600whp 4 cyl and v8 will run similar times. You want to run 8s? Then yeah, a v8 is cheaper. Anything else, a turbo 4 and a v8 are both good choices to go fast.

The only thing that needs to stop is this sense of elitism.

I had a fellow Stang enthusiast in an 08 literally beg me for a quick jaunt (light to light). I didn't think he was serious but when the light went green he nailed it, I had to play catch up for a sec but went around him with ease. At the next light he tells me that's what a 5.0 will do for you blah, blah, blah.

Bottom line if I had to decide between the EB and pre- Coyote I would go with the S550. And this is coming from a die-hard V-8 guy. The looks, updates/options are eons better than a pre-coyote IMO.

My insecurities are showing?

I'm not starting threads trying to compare performance of the I4 car I bought to a v8…that sounds like insecurity? So does, getting defensive of the fact that a V8 will produce more power, more efficiently, end of story. You guys aren't even arguing with me, you're arguing with physics.

You cannot make 4 cylinders just as fast as V8s, if that were the case then V8s wouldn't exist. Whatever you say you can do to a 4 cylinder, just do that same thing to the V8, and that's it, not sure why we are disagreeing about this.

I'm not trying to knock the car here, I think it's a good car, quite quick, and definitely a much needed step in the product lineup…my only issue is trying to make it seem like it's as capable as a V8 from a performance perspective…that's all. Remember, Mustangs aren't the first guys to the I4 turbo game…Subaru and Honda guys have been saying the same stuff for the last decade…this is nothing new. Once again I'll stress that it is quite a peppy car and a much needed step in the right direction for Ford.

And that sentiment is totally fair, it's more comfortable, spacious, has more tech goodies, etc.

But but but I've got a v8 iam the best evar! Some people crack me up here. No matter what you get There is always someone faster....The Eco is a fantastic car and as being shown can be made quite fast easily,be real with yourself and get over it.
It's funny the v8 Guys I've met n person like the Eco and think its great.most on this forum are however are haters. I'd agree with insecurities.
As far as the op comparison acceleration would be close stock. As far as the rest of the car no contest.

you don't read what I wrote, I'm not hating on the car at all…I'm hating on the comparison of performance of a 4.6L v8 to an I4. The Honda guys have been trying to do this for 10 years and it wasn't cool then...now suddenly it's a viable debate because it's in a Mustang?

Just appreciate the ecoboost for what it is, a big step up for the brand, a move to go international, deliver solid performance in a fuel efficient package, provide the amenities of the modern s550 platform, etc. just stop trying to compare it to a V8 engine with higher performance potential.

Mr bilton yours posted while I was typing mine. (Kids Needed me for a sec) You have vald points and I agree with most of your last responses.
Stock for stock the non coyote v8 and 14 are pretty equal in performance, that's just the way it is sorry.

I know, several automotive editorials have shown us their performance times and yes stock for an eco-boost and 05-10 GT are similar but not equal (eco-boost runs about 14@98ish, NA 3v V8 runs about 13.5@100ish) and one has factory boost.

One requires forced induction to make the power, the other does not. One is making it's power easier. One can handily outdo the other with boost modification. I4 and 4.6L V8 are not equal in performance (see Terminator Cobra, 427r, s281, and physics text).

There's a reason thePill said a couple pages back 4.6 is faster in a straight line. They are not equal in performance so just stop.

You just stop :paddle:Quit whining which is what you're doing.you know damn well what we are comparing and they are pretty equal.one requires forced induction while one requires twice the cylinders blah blah. Who cares factory stock for stock they are equal in performance. Nobody is talking about a modified v8 so drop it.
