Risks from LTH/tuning

I'm am near purchasing headers, but before I do I want to make sure I am fully aware of the risks I am facing by potentially tossing my warranty out the window.

Costs associated with the potential problems would be great to have as well.

Your warranty for your drivetrain is most likely kaput. Should still cover everything else. Just my personal opinion but I agree with them, If you start tuning and adding performance parts don't come to us when stuff starts breaking. All of that being said headers and a good exhaust do sound rather nice!

If you get them get a tune from a reputable tuner who knows what they are doing. As long as it is tuned right you won't have any real problems.

Its all what you want to do. A tune shouldn't cause any issue outside of what would normally happen with your car.

Cars are mechanical, and could have issues. Our 03 cobra had a cam follower laying in the top of the head from the factory, it was always low on power, and we could never figure out why, until we went to install new cams about 6 months in and that's when we found it.

Could have turned into a major issue, but didn't. You just never know.

Your wide bands should compensate okay, but if you delete your cats without a tune you may get a CEL and will be leaving a ton of power on the table.

It'd be like getting a perfectly cooked ribeye steak and putting ketchup on it

Ok thanks! I want to get long tubes but I'm worried about my warranty. So if I get them with cats I shouldn't get a CEL right?

However, if you have a problem with the engine and drive train because of Ford, say a faulty part, then you lose that warranty protection because of the tune.

Not worth it to me to tune a car until the power train warranty expires. Why take the risk?

You should still end up with a cell because the long tube move the cats further back and the will take longer to heat up compared to the stock ones.

Yes if you have a tune, there is the risk that Ford will not fix an issue due to a known faulty part. But, it not like a tune means an automatic 'denied'. It will likely depend on the dealer and the exact issue.

I wouldn't be surprised that if the issue were common enough, the dealer wouldn't even be checking for tunes. And of course any recalls will still be covered and I suspect tsb's would be as well.

To get the best bang for your buck headers need a tune. The gains will be very minimal and you will get a CEL because the sensors are moved. If you are ok voiding your warranty the very first thing I would do is get a tune. A tune is a 5 minute job and will give you better gains on a stock car.

Cats or no cats, you will get a CEL. If your not going to tune the car then your basically just spending 2 grand for what?
