The modding community will prefer the Turbo 4 to the NA V6 because of cheap, easy power gains. Already the EB motors are seen as a sort of power-on-the-cheap option. Also, whether or not the V6 Camaro is quicker stock, the Ecoboost will probably FEEL faster, due to the significantly greater torque accessible down low. Tuned, it's a torque monster. Forget it. The NA V6s will see taillights. More seat-of-the-pants feel. The EB motor not only has more of that torque, but it gives it to you right away (and with minimal turbo lag fuss). It will pull from any gear, really.

It's what sold me on the Ecoboost over the 3.7 despite negligible horsepower difference and I have a feeling it will continue to sell EBs even with the '16 Camaro's V6 in the mix. The butt dyno is a powerful decision maker. The Camaro's 2.0 turbo is a non-starter and no threat. Sub-300 horsepower doesn't belong in a newly built muscle car.

Ford did the right thing going with a tuner's delight as the mid-range offering. They knew the market would like them because of Focus ST and Fiesta ST sales.
True BUT the Camaro V6 is most likely going to come in lighter then the EB. Being lighter means with even less hp and torque could make the comparisons much much closer.

As for the 2.0 Turbo, that engine is there for the DD that has no interest in being any sort of speed racer. Its there for economical purposes and that's it. Also, it's probably going to be somewhere 300-400lbs lighter from the previous 5G.

We'll never know what Ford *could* have done if they focused on their V6 and offered it in premium.

Not likely to see the 3.7 NA V6 get any larger role in the future.

What I wonder is whether we will see the 2.7 EB V6 in a mid model. That engine powered an F150 SuperCab to a 14.3 at 95! That truck weighs 4900 pounds! Think what it would do in a 3700 pound Mustang. Pretty awesome.
Maybe. I think it has a place. But that thing would put it at risk of hurting GT sales.

What they really need to do.

Lighten the car by 125-150 lbs across the board.
Agreed. I think that will be coming in '17

Fix the front end that gives the illusion that someone put a spacer lift kit on the front end.
Agreed also. They need to adopt the GT350 slope/front. When you look at the GT350 it has the front in the S550 should have. Great slope, visibility, etc.

8 speed tranny
10 speed is coming. Maybe not till '18
Get rid of that center stack on the base car that looks like an early 90 design.
Could see an ebrake down the road. Now Challenge and Camaro have them. Mustang last with the outdated handbrake.

Eb needs a larger engine with 335 hp to match competition. 2.3 is already pushed far enough. Displacement increase needed.
I think you'll see the Focus ST #s in '17 in the EB Mustang

I really think the new Camaro is going to take advantage of coming late to the party and give the current iteration of the mustang are hard time in side by side comparisons. I'm not a current camaro fan but I really dig the new smaller size and lighter weight, I really like the short overhangs also. I wish they had strayed a little further from the current design though. Interior wise I like the mustang as long as we are talking premium with recaros.
I think Camaro delayed their reveal on purpose so Ford couldn't do any countering in their '16. Now you'll see the '17 be the counter model.

It's simply 2 different strategies. GM is positioning their V6 as the high volume seller to the masses and Ford is positioning their Ecoboost (all of the rental car agencies are stocking Ecoboost and not V6 and I see 10 Ecoboosts to every 1 V6 or GT).

Neither is right or wrong, nor does Ford need to do anything. Go buy a Camaro then. The Ecoboost can wipe the floor with a N/A V6 very easily with very little in mods.
I saw a EB Premium at the gas station and was talking to the lady. Didn't have the nerve to tell her that she didn't have the 50th anniversary package or a race package like the dealer told her. It was just a EB premium with option 20's. She said it was a race package and 50th package. ( i hope she meant 50 year model, not either package or she got taken).

They likely won't adopt the 350 body lines. Word is the hood is so low you wont be able to get a superharger in there (if you can even turbo/supercharge the voodoo). They wont shoot their 3rd party deals with Ford Racing, Roush, Saleen etc. who use root style superchargers

The electronic ebrake has its own downfalls. I've read that you cannot do your own, at least rear, breaks or pads. Requires software in a shop to do and more expensive than a standard brake job.

As a V6 owner, while I recognize its eventual demise, I don't think it's dead yet. The V6 Camaro is going head to head with the Eco and their 4cylinder being the base engine will go head to head with the Mustang V6. Their 4 cyl has 270HP and runs on Premium gas. Mine has 300 and runs on regular. All the while getting slightly worse HWY mileage than their 4 banger.

Sales have shown that the V6 Mustang accounts for 25% of sales, if you check the section on this site you'll see plenty of owners as well. They aren't all going to "rental fleets". There is a viable market for this engine, good aftermarket performance parts as well as exterior and interior upgrades which will allow me to get my car as close to "premium" as possible while still spending less than the Premium Eco. I got my V6 with 051A pkg, A/T and spoiler delete for $23,750, if I spent $5k on upgrades I'd still have a quick car with premium feel for less than the Ecoboost.
If you want a V8, or Eco, or V6- then get one. Don't worry so much about Camaro. The design IMO isn't all that great, I'm sure it will have teething issues, and in the end it will cost more than a comparably equipped Mustang at every level. Ford only needs to offer the sync 3 display with "Shaker sound " and SAT radio in all trim levels as well as leather and I think they'd be fine until the mid cycle refresh where they may drop the V6 replacing it with the Eco 4, and put in the Eco 6 as second to the V8. As I stated the V6 will eventually go away, but that doesn't mean it's not one hell of a car for a phenomenal price!! :ford::ford::ford:

Agreed on the 2.0 motor. But I doubt weight savings will be 300-400 lbs. Last press event said 200 lbs lighter than previous gen. Nothing to sneeze at, but that means v6 camaro and eb mustang would weigh about the same (3500lbs or so). Remember eb mustang is nearly 200 lbs lighter than a gt. Eb will have 36 tq advantage. V6 will have 25 horse advantage. Stock vs. Stock... Driver's race. Tuned vs. Tuned, eb wins easy.

All depends on final curb weights though. Why do they keep delaying on that, I wonder?

4 cyl, v6...don't care. Ford needs DI and bumped compression in the Coyote and 10 speed auto in '17.

450+ hp and upper 20s/maybe 30 mpg highway would be a nice reaction to the new Camaro. I don't think some of you realise how much quicker the Camaro is going to be assuming same approx weight as the Mustang w/ 'only' 20 more hp...and deeper trans gearing. I have a feeling its mpgs might surprise us as well.

The weight savings are 200lbs or more depending on model. Go to page 14 of the dealer guide...you can see the line about it at the link below.

Also from Autoblog:
Though the new car is said to be more than 200 pounds lighter, that's a blanket number that applies to the entire Camaro range.

The V6 model is actually about 300 pounds lighter, and that difference is apparent in our back-to-back drives. After all, the 335-horsepower six-cylinder has only 12 more ponies than last year's V6, but it feels much stronger and more capable.
That puts their Camaro V6 at around 3400lbs...about 130lb lighter then a V6 Mustang.

That then means their 4 cylinder 2.0 is probably even lighter then that and their SS is the 200lb savings and will prob be around 3700 right in the ballpark of the GT.

Oh lord the 2017 MY predictions are going to be worse than the 2016 MY predictions.
'17 Mustang has Unicorn Farts as exhaust smell.

Really hoping we see the 2.7 V6 Ecoboost join the line-up soon. It need not tread on the 5.0's toes, especially if that does get a DI bump and take it to 460hp+

Not sure why everyone thinks Ford is going to one-up Chevy in HP. I could see Brembos being a standard option on the GT, PP being a standard option or being cheaper, more extensive use of aluminum in the body, etc. I think Ford tries to wow more with infotainment and weight reduction rather than just bump power and expecting no hit to fuel economy numbers. The LT1 can shut down cylinders. Can the Coyote? Easier to get better CAFE numbers when the underlying technology was designed accordingly.

Turns out GM knows a thing or two about building cars. God bless the pony car competition. I love this country.

I don't buy 300-400lbs of savings on this car. "200lbs or more" does not equate to 300+. If GM was saving THAT much weight in their V6, they'd be tooting that horn all day and saying "see, we're more efficient than the ecoboost."

No. My money is on 200lbs or so off their V8s. I agree with you there. I'd say similar for the V6. 200lbs of weight savings over their existing previous gen V6 model. And then a bit more for their turbo 4, say 250lbs or so, as compared to previous gen V6. That would allow them to state exactly what they have in their literature. It would mean comparable cars, with the exception of the most basic models, would weigh about the same. I.e. Mustang EB roughly the same as Camaro V6 and Mustang V8 roughly the same as Camaro V8. It would make sense.

For the turbo 4, remember that the EB motor is only a couple pounds lighter than the 3.7. Now, the GM 4 is smaller... so give them an extra 50lbs or so for that, to get to that 250 number.

If I'm wrong, I'll eat my words and you can say "I told you so" all day long. But if GM was really seeing 300+ reduction on ANY model, they'd be saying so in that literature. It would say "as much as 300 lbs" instead of what it does now.

I was pretty set on getting a 2016 Mustang ecoboost but the new Camaro really has me doubting. I am not really fan of the tail lights design but the 335 naturally aspirated v6 and premium interior available for V6 is enough for me to consider it. I don't know if anyone at Ford will read this but to counter the Camaro, they should offer a premium NA v6 with around 350 hp and aluminium door to save weight and offer the ecoboost for Overseas or as a base model.
Which door do you think should go aluminium?

Just my opinion, although improved, I think the interior is still fugly.
