I just had my new Ford Racing by Borla exhaust installed today. Sounds great, aggressive, tight, but I have one question/complaint:
There seems to be this sort of ringing pipe noise whenever the rpms get 3k+ and comes and goes when I accelerate only. Is this a normal noise from an aftermarket exhaust? Or is it what I think and there's a hole or leak somewhere... Does NOT sound like drone of any kind.

Thanks in advance!

***EDIT: it's not so much a ringing pipe noise as it is a sound that is similar to when you wet your finger and run it along the outside of a glass. Another example would be the sound you get from blowing over the top of a glass coke bottle. I have no, NO idea if this is normal. The guy who installed my Ford Racing Borla cat back exhaust said it was off by 2" so he cut it at the coupling... which he should have had to do... but I digress... needless to say I am nervous that this guy ruined my $1,400 exhaust system.

It's the inherent rasp in this new car - the sound deadening seems to cancel out the deeper tones of the exhaust inside the car. I've owned five mustangs and at least double that amount of different exhaust setups and never experienced the tinny metallic flap type sound inside the cabin like my mbrp street. I thought something was wrong because I was so used to my '13 coyote. I have a thread going looking for the best system without much rasp. It's a preference thing, at this point it's a 50/50 shot of whether or not someone likes it inside the car - near guarantee it sounds amazing to anyone outside. Lots of members helping me make sense of it in the mbrp street thread too....

I didn't hear a ringing/pinging noise when I have my MRT catback
This is the problem... re-read my original post. I updated it with a more accurate sound description.

Never heard of this being necessary on a kit designed for the car....adjustment? Sure. Cut to fit in a cat back licensed by Ford? No way.

Hope it's a reputable shop - regardless of where the noise ends up coming from i'd get an official email from Ford Racing saying the kit requires no modifications, show him and ask him to replace it.

Just my .02

I'm thinking that's the smart course of action. It could be him not fully hanging the exhaust supports properly with the installation. This whole thing has pissed me off.

Also. There should be NO reason to cut that catback.

That's my big gripe... I'm calling the guy this morning and talking this shit through. He'll probably end up having to order a new one for me, quick fix this current one, and I'll install it myself using the CJ Pony Parts installation video.

I have a feeling he will try to say you left and the work was done. Good luck man.

We shall see. I'm going back to him today to show him what's happening. I don't know if I would be able to take legal action against him for something like this (his "profession" opinion of 30 years was that not all exhaust systems fit every car and some slight modifications may be necessary to have it fit perfect).

We will see at around 4:45pmCT.
