First off... why was a spare tire not an option with the PP? Simply for weight? Is it that hard to take out a tire if you plan on going to the track?

Now that I've vented... I was looking at fords website for a spare tire... they have one
http://accessories.ford.com/catalog/product/view/id/11148/s/spare-tire-kit-v6/category/168/

However it says "Vehicle Notes: Not Available for vehicles originally equipped with summer tires or 20 Inch Wheels."

I have summer only tires... What's the beef?

For PP it doesn't fit over the brakes. for 20" - no clue.

Main reason there is no spare for PP, is the spare tire will not clear PP front brakes. Some have (or at least thought about) bought the spare and if they need to change a front tire, moving the rear to the front and putting the spare on the rear.

Interesting. I'm not saying you're wrong (because that makes perfect sense). The website though only says that it's not compatible with 20" wheels and/or summer only tires. Nothing about the PP.

I didn't look at any non PP cars. So I have to assume that with those ones summer only tires weren't an option and that's why the website states the spare tire doesn't work with summer only tires. Still, they'd have been better off just saying "Not compatible with PP" if so. Anyone can change their PP tires to all season and then be mislead and buy this spare.

I agree it is not worded well at all. That said, it does say 'originally' equipped with summer tires.

I wonder if the sve drift in 18x9 would fit over the newer 6 piston brakes? Grabbing one of these and throwing a 235/50 used tire on it would make for a cheap full sized spare. If they do fit I'l probably do that when I get my car....

it will be tough to find one that fits both over the 6 piston calipers and inside the spare tire well in the trunk.

ive seen the GT350 S197 guys find one that works with a spacer.

This will destroy the Torsen if you drive very far.

Has anyone actually tried moving a PP back wheel/tire to the front to see if the clearances work? I would really like to know as I want to order the PP option, but the lack of any kind of a spare is a deal breaker for me.

I considered the spear on the rear switcheroo until some member posted that if you have the PP, not only do you have the BIG BRAKES to deal with, but the TORSEN rearend.

If the wheel diameters don't come close for both back wheels, it'll screw up the Torsen. .???

Scared me enough to drop the idea. Anybody want to comment?

Go buy a good tire plug kit and throw it in the trunk. Better than shooting GOO all over the inside of your tire and wheel.

Not meaning to question what you say but how much are we taking about when you say 'drive very far'? Less than 50 miles?

I now have 19x9 PP wheels all around which means I could buy the spare and have it replace any wheel in an emergency (realizing if it's a front wheel problem I'll have to do a switcheroo since the spare won't fit over the Brembo's).

I just called a Ford service center and asked if it would be ok to use the Ford spare 18x5 on the rear Torsen differential, asking if it would do damage right off or how long could I drive on it and I could not get any answer at all! He had no idea and didn't even know who to ask.
Like talking to a brick wall. Guess I'll try calling some more dealers.

Can't even call the dealer where I bought my car because a month ago they said I would void my suspension warranty by just changing the rear PP tires to front PP tires...sheeesh!

No, no it won't. Assuming that you stay within the limits of the minispare's ratings (speed, distance), you won't cause any undue damage to the Torsen. They are validated for this sort of thing, and have been used in applications with pretty extreme tire size differences. In said application, it was tested for 300+ miles at 65mph. You do generate a bit of heat, so if you do this, you might eventually cook the oil. But the differential won't see any real damage, especially if you keep the driveline torque low. Drive sensibly and all.

That said, it might behave a little, um, quirky when driving with it on the rear. The differential will direct more torque to the bigger tire, which would make the car want to yaw toward the minispare under acceleration.
