I feel it's better wait and get what you truly want. If you settle, it'll bite you in the ass most of the time.

Well not quite ONLY because it looks good. I've always wanted a mustang. I'm a big guy ... .6' 2" 340 lbs-- and I could never FIT into older mustangs for one reason or the other. I went on my own transformation and dropped a lot of weight and size and when I went looking for a new car the mustang caught my eye. I hadn't even CONSIDERED it until sitting in one.

I focused on the LOOKS because.... like most people the performance is not THAT important to me. I wanted a awesome looking sports car and this fit the bill. I love the occasional speed, burnout and attention it gets but its not MY personal desire. The OP wanted opinions on the V6 vs springing for the GT. Other than Trim and Speed/Performance the OP seemed to clearly be focused on what makes the GT better than the V6 when you factor in... Initial cost, cost of appearance packages, gas, taxes, insurance and waiting vs buying what you want today.

Op dosen't know if he will be alive in 6 months when he saves up enough to stretch and buy the GT. When he buys the GT 2016 Op dosent know if something BETTER will come out while he's waiting for his car to arrive or be built. At this point Cars are like damn cellphones. You wait months for the new one to come out only to have a better one replace it 6 months down the line. I decided long ago to get what I want and can afford now and worry about whats new when I get tired of it or are ready for an upgrade.

I am not trying to ruffle feathers honestly but IMO the GT is just a status symbol. Sure that is important especially among men and I'd own one myself if a premium gt wasn't 45k dollars. I honestly have not run into one road that I've been comfortable on driving with my ecoboost pegged to the floor for more than a couple seconds. If you're a family man and worried about buying a house I really think this is a no brainer. You are still getting a new car in the v6 and a beautiful one with loads of power. I don't call that settling in my eyes. Settling would be driving a fiesta or focus. You can get the v6 and later on when you get the house and you feel comfortable get the gt later.

Yup, or like TabletPC's; whatever you buy that happens to be available on the shelf is already obsolete no matter how new it is. Good point!

Do you absolutely need a new car? Can you wait a year or two and pick up a nice used one? Seems that might be a reasonable option....

exactly my thoughts. The ecoboost has more power and better fuel economy than the V6 and has alot more potential for mods if you want to make it as faat as a GT. Or keep sazing for a few months and get a '15 GT when the '16s are released in a few months as there will be heavy rebates on the 15s then.
It would be a wash with fuel economy between the V6/EB...V6 runs on 87. EB runs on 93 (for the power). EB 25 combined, V6 22 combined. The difference in price of fuel would then basically negate any fuel savings between the two models and in fact, the V6 running regular would come out ahead of the EB actually for $$$ spent for fill up by 21 gallons. (15 gallon fill up in EB vs 18 gallons in V6 for same cost of premium vs regular). EB would get 375 miles where the V6 would actually get 396 (330+66 addtional miles for extra saved fuel costs vs premium) if you took an average of .50 cent difference in premium vs reg..

Now torque is a whole other thing and available mods.

Just remember that you're spending good money on either model. Whatever you end up buying, make sure you're happy with it. That's what matters. I can honestly say that I've had a smile plastered on my face almost every time I drive my car. Since getting the exhaust I've been hysterical about it. You might be completely content with the V6. Just make sure you drive them both and think hard about it. Sometimes going out of your comfort zone won't be the logical choice, but then you have to think about how you'll be enjoying your life. Smiles per miles or smiles elsewhere.

if I wasn't getting a GT it would be and EB because it has and available performance pack and recaros and unlike the v6 modifications and tuning have a ton of potential

If to do were as easy as to know what were good to do, chapels had been churches and poor mens cottages, prince's palaces.

These are the ways the GT costs more than a V6, assuming a base GT and approximate mileage (I don't really know the V6 or GT mileage):

$8000 MSRP
$560 additional sales tax (7%)
$800 add'l interst on 5 year loan @3% apr.
$300 premium vs regular gas cost/yr. (@.45/gal add'l. x 12,000 miles &18 mpg), (5 years=$1500)
$2000 additional mpg differential cost, assuming $3/gal., 18 vs. 27 mpg, 12K mile/yr. (5 years=$10000)
$1,500 insurance/yr. (5 yr.= $7,500)

Your actual costs may vary depending upon your driving habits.

there are quite a number of other cars out there besides the mustang you know... if cost is an issue, look elsewhere.

While you have got to be smart with your money. You only live once and for myself if I didnt get what I truly wanted, I would not be happy.

You said a GT is what you really want, do not settle for less. Save your money and get what you want. Wait for a slightly used 2015 GT and get that even.

I totally disagree. I had a v6 and a GT stang and the GT stang was just SOOOO much more fun. Status symbol? Nah, the average person won't tell between a GT and a v6 or a Ecoboost at all.

Hmm...you're #s are off in in the MPG.

GT is 19 combined. V6 is 22 combined. You have a 9 mpg difference (not sure where you are getting that from.)

Also, you can run regular in both without any issues. You save there also.

Obviously insurance is different for everyone. My insurance there is no difference between a GT or V6 or EB. All are insured the same.

I will agree a V6 vs GT is practicality vs desire.

V6 will save you on fuel, is more reasonable for city driving (who really needs 435hp?), still sounds great, looks great, comes well optioned, etc.

The thing is, if you really like cars, and you really want a V8 and can afford it without difficulty, by all means, get it. I could justify the cost myself, and even though the V8 will be a pig on gas, and RWD will suck in the winter, I know that MOST of the time I'll be loving the car. I really like cars, and I really like really fun cars. The GT was a no brainer for me. Some days I don't have something to look forward to for a while (like a vacation, fun weekend, etc)...so if nothing else I like having a car I really like to drive ready for me after work, etc.

Bottom line, if you have the means to make the dream work, you only live once, so live it up. If you compromise making ends meet with higher payments, don't compromise your security for a luxury.
