So i've watched an amateur drag racing video on youtube between the C5 ZO6 and a GTPP! People on youtube has some funny comments. They are all bashing the GT but without knowing the facts ofcourse and actually the GTPP did really well! I don't know if the ZO6 was a manual but till the third gear GTPP was neck to neck but after hitting the third gear it fell behind, however it also started closing the gap at the end but they ran out of runway! The Zo6 weights 3100 lb with 400+ hp compared to 3700+ lb 435hp mustang. I m guessing if it was a 3.55 auto mustang gt then things might have ended up differently. The stock 0-60 and quarter miles for the zo6 is 3.9 sec and 11.9 sec!

All C5 Z06's are manuals. I owned an '02, they are very fast stock, and 11 second cars with only a set of sticky tires. 405hp and light weight works very well. If it wasn't for the crap interior I would still have it. That and the fact that most 'vette owners are pricks. Especially the automatic convertible guys... sheesh.

I own both! The C5 Z06 is faster. Well, at least mine is. I have a aftermarket cam from Competition Cams but it is otherwise stock. I drove both of them back to back around the curvy roads in Rockwall, Texas to compare. It's no comparison. The Z is just more raw and the pull is harder. You feel like you're going faster. The GTPP is a fast car, but the C5 ZO6 is faster. I think the average 0-60 and quarter mile times for the 02-04 version is 4.0-4.3 and 12.4 to 12.6. Some have gotten to 3.9 and 12 flat, but that is uncommon. I love to drive my 15 GTPP, but the C5 ZO6 is a keeper. That's why I still have it since 2004.

I ran neck to neck with a C6 ZO6 from 50 to maybe 75 in my 15 GT, but ran up on traffic so I backed off. However, I'm not fooling myself thinking the car is faster. Maybe, I was a better driver. I do know that the 15 GTPP is a lot faster than my 2007 Shelby GT.

The C5 ZO6 handles better as well. The interior comparison is not even close. The 15 GTPP wins hands down! However, I wouldn't sell my C5 Z because of the interior. If one had to go, it would be the GT.

The C5 zo6 has to be faster the car weights freaking 3100 lbs. Imagine if the mustang was that light weight. The new Coyote is a bad mother though amazing engine! If this car was even only 300 lbs lighter it would have blown the competition away! I can't wait how the gt350R will perform!

Not comparable - the C5 Z06 is a RAW old school sports car Vs a smooth a powerful modern refined GT car. I think its rather ugly, the interior is shit, steering is crap, shifter is crap, lazy engine, questionable safety...
BUT
as far as speed goes, it an animal. It feels faster than it is, and it is faster than the GTPP (but not a massive difference, but its def there and the numbers people mention above seems right to me). 3150 pounds and 405 HP will do that. I drove one in AutoX recently, holy cow, it had wider stickier tires and while I didnt enjoy the feeling (it didnt feel balanced and the driver controls were primitive)it was so sticky and fast my neck hurt on the cones.

I wouldnt buy one but mad props to anyone who DD'ies one of those beasts. You can pick 'em up for CHEAP. C6 Z06 is faster but much more 'mature' product IMHO. I wouldnt get either as I would wrap myself around a tree in one of them in no time a burn alive. I know my limits as a driver.

A C5 Z06 is still on my list of cars to have one day. Mostly because of the weight and I love the overall shape.

I owned a 2004 Z06 - it was a phenomenal car. It was my daily driver for 5 years. I like my new GT better honestly. Now I know I'm getting old. :)

Until the back end does a spin on you. I stay away from vettes, don't even want to sit in them. A GT PP with a good driver will take a c5 z06. Handle better? No way.

I feel the same way. Massive grip that suddenly breaks away on you ! The C5Z06 was the most dangerous of the bunch perhaps along with the ZR1 (which I didn't drive so based on what I've heard). No progressiveness and not confidence inspiring. Confidence gives one consistency and speed.

What a minute! So, all of a sudden a good driver makes a 12.9-13.0 car into a 12.4-12.6 car! I think someone is flying the Ford banner way too much! The only Ford cars that are faster than a C5 ZO6 is the 2005-2006 Ford GT and the 2013-2014 GT500. That's it! The Boss 302 maybe equally as fast or a hair off. I have both and know both of them well, the C5 ZO6 is faster and handles better than the 15 GTPP.

All this nonsense about spinning out and confidence, maybe you should watch the YouTube videos of Mustangs losing control by spinning out. Again, I have both. They are both great cars! But, to diss the C5 ZO6 stating that it is slower than a good driver GTPP doesn't even make any sense.

You can hate the interior and for the most part I agree, but what American :doh:car is 2001-2004 had great interiors?

The C5 Z06 dyno's around 345-350rwhp on a Dynojet, right? And the 15 GT does like 365 right? I am asking because I dont know for sure, I dont pay much attention to what cars make stock since I mod the heck out of them.

I think that the 500+ lb weight different will MORE than make up for the slightly lower HP in the C5 Z06... I cant imagine staying in front of one with the GT. I would also assume that the rear transaxle in the vette helps it hook up better than the Mustang, with tires being equal.

For handling... It all changes so much after modification and either one setup well is going to handle better than 99% of drivers will ever need them to on the street. But weight is king... with the vette being so light, everything else being equal, its going to be able to turn harder.

Not that I am here to hate on the Mustang... its the one I bought when a C5 could be had for half the price. Just trying to keep it real is all.

Actually, yes.

I've seen quite a few pics of timeslips on the forum in the 12.5s. I think one might have even been a high 12.4....
