C6 Z06 - 505 hp at 3120 lb.
15 Mustang GT - 435 hp at 3705 lb.

Vette = .1618 p/w ratio
Stang = .1174 p/w ratio

If I've done the math correct, that means just to keep up with a stock ZO6 a 15 GT would need 600 hp theoretically? Am I getting this right?

You'll need wider tires too and suspension parts. Z06 has a very sports-car feel and very good traction out of the box.

You could run a faster 1/4 mile with the right setup and tires without adding much if any power, but comparing OEM to OEM ya you'll need a lot more power.

ZO6 is a monster...there is a ways for the mustang to go to match it. it doesn't even have a back seat

our cars were not made to compete with a Vette. the Vette is not a Pony car, generally costs upwards of 75000. it is a true sports car. so, stock for stock, the mustang will not compete with the vette. I do wish Ford would develop competition for the vette. it is a great car and fun to drive too.

if you want to do a real comparison on the two cars, how much HP per dollar? :)

My car costs 40,000 at 435 HP = .0108 HP per dollar. or 1.08 HP per hundred dollars.
Similarly optioned Vette costs 75,000 at 505 HP = .006 HP per dollar. or .6 HP per hundred dollars.

Since more money = more HP and more money = less weight, we should compare all three.

$ = HP
$ = 1/weight

Therefore:
$ = HP/weight

Rearranging:
HP = weight * $

Let's make a Performance Rating:

PR = HP/(weight*$) * 1,000,000

Mustang PR = 435/(3705*40000) * 1000000 = 2.935
Vette Z06 PR = 505/(3120*75000) * 1000000 = 2.158

Clearly the Mustang rules!

Also worth mentioning that, on a basic level, when you have two cars with identical power to weight ratios (and assuming all other properties are equal) the car that's lighter with less horsepower will accelerate faster on the low end relative to the other car that's heavier with higher horsepower.

Practically speaking, a GT with enough power to match a Z06's p/w ratio would have a better chance of fairing well at higher speeds than anything else.

Careful guys, this is dangerously close to "ricer math" if it hasn't already crossed that line lol

Hopefully it jumped way, way over the line. But in the name of fun, you should propose some more ways to take a bunch of random numbers and show that the Mustang wins. Maybe we can throw in some skidpad, 0-60, and 1/4 mile times. With all those strongly in the Vette's favor, we may need to increase the weighting on price in order to keep the Mustang in the lead!

There was an article in one of the magazines a couple years ago (can't remember if it was MT, R&T, or C&D) where they tested a bunch of cars and then had an equation to show which was the best. It was pretty funny.

I get that its not the same category of car but where I live there are so many ZO6's and Vette's on the road. I keep thinking about getting a used one as they can be picked up for $55k with low low miles but something inside me loves being the underdog!

I do feel better when I went and looked at the new ZO6's weight as it comes in at at 3524 lb's. Granted the HP is high and it has a blower but both models are quite a bit heavier. Guess Chevy couldn't get away with the horrible interior any longer.

Chevy has not been good with interior. they have been living the lie that function is everything.

the S550 added to the function and make it a car i love sitting in... OMG, i love the interior of this car, every single detail!!!

Z06 = 3120 lbs / 505 hp = 6.178 lbs per hp
GT = 3705 lbs / 435 hp = 8.517 lbs per hp

13 Z06 = $70, 000 / 505 hp = $138.61 per 1 hp
GT = $37, 000 / 435 hp = $85.06 per 1 hp

Unless I did this wrong.
