Very interesting, anyone else have anymore information?

Roush Performance Products Announces Active Exhaust System for S550 Mustangs

We don’t have the complete details yet, but this is something that got us pretty excited and was too cool not to share.

ROUSH Performance Products just introduced their latest Active Exhaust System for the S550 Mustang. And yes, it does exactly what it sounds like; only, you have complete control of how quiet or how loud you want your exhaust to be.

Case in point - say you leave early in the morning and don’t want to wake your neighbors; you can adjust the internal blades to keep exhaust notes at bay. While that’s a big bonus for anyone living in an apartment complete, the real fun is in how you can program when you want the sounds to perk up the decibels.

The system offers a plug in software, and they’re also working on a Blue Tooth setup, where you are in complete control of when the pipes come alive. Pick an rpm, pick a throttle-position; it can do it all. You can even share your personal sound profile between friends.

In a world where technology and cool gadgets have become incorporated to our muscle cars, ROUSH is truly taking it to another level. The price has yet to be determined, but you can bet we’ll be anxiously waiting to test the first commercially available system.

I know I've seen this in other post, but I think it is cool enough to have a thread of its own. I know most of the time I love to have my exhaust loud, but there are times I wish it would be quiet, specifically when I am on a phone call using the bluetooth. If I am on the highway some have issues hearing me.

I think this is a good home to track any info for this system.

I would consider switching out my Ford Racing Sport catback for it. I demanded and ordered the variable exhaust on my last 2 Corvettes and love it.

Seeing as how you've owned several systems.. can you listen to this and give your opinion??
This is the prototype active system. They're mechanically controlling the valves here

Well, that video kinda sucks... so much Marketing talk that it was funny.

Now, for the exhaust, we need a better clip. It sounded like he had it backwards saying the exhaust was closed at first, but then the second mode didn't really sound that much quieter but the mic seemed to change and not pick up background noise. If it's still "loud" when closed I'm not going to spend the money on it and the needed Roush diffuser that has the ports for the quad exhaust.

The NPP option on the Corvettes is pretty darned quiet when closed, then it's effectively a nearly open exhaust when it's opened. This is great for me since I leave home between 2 and 3 AM for work and I like to let my neighbors and my dog sleep peacefully. ;)

Curious how the blades in the exhaust will be actuated/moved. I assuming electrical servos.

It will cut further back than the axle back, however as of right now it will not be removing the resonator. It will be the quad tip exhaust as seen on the stage 2 car. Basically one tip of each muffler is open all the time and the other side has a block off plate bolted on. You then could get the quad tip and remove the block off plate and have the full sound all the time. With the active you would remove the plate and install a electric valve that will be adjustable in car via a switch and we also plan to have an app to allow you to adjust the sound levels anyway you would like. Not just closed, partial, open etc. it will allow you to change it based on throttle input, gears etc.

Will the quad tips fit inside the stock rear valance? The only issue I see is the servo's. They're going to be operating in a pretty harsh environment due to heat and for folks that use their Mustangs as daily drivers (especially the northern folks) corrosion issues that could drive servo/valve malfunctions. What is the expected MSRP on this exhaust?

You would need our valance, I don't have a MSRP just yet we're still testing the parts and making sure everything is good to go however keep in mind w're up here in Michigan and I've seen numerous engineering cars running the active system and they get blasted with salt and slush up here with our winters and they're holding up great from what I have seen.

If the servos are the industry standard units there should be no problems. Plenty of manufacturers have shipped systems with variable exhaust as OEM parts for years (Chevrolet, VW and Jaguar to name just a few).
