I want to thank RIP Tuning for bringing this information to light. Although I am dissapointed to see how some of our fellow forum members are treating this as a marketing ploy.

No one wants to show off a blown motor, it takes guts to let everyone know.

With such a small turbo this was bound to happen, I am more than confident that with a larger turbo and smoother torque curve that the stock rods will take more abuse.

My only question is what dyno do you guys have, if it was not mentioned before?

Thank you

So the ecoboost is more of a tuners pipe dream? Assuming 370tq the highest you can go before problems. Wonder how ford is planning to tackle this problem

Exactly. At those boost levels, it was way outside of it's efficiency range and blowing nothing but super heated air. Combine that with the crappy stock FMIC and it's a receipt for disaster. I'd love to see the logs from that run!

I also agree that it takes balls to step up and acknowledge a blown engine, so props to RIP for that.

I think it's important to remember that this stock turbo was being pushed way beyond its limits. I really don't think this is going to be an issue at or near stock boost levels on the stock turbo or even with an upgraded turbo. The FMIC would need be addressed too, but that's best left for another discussion.

The FoST cars have VERY similar rods and are beyond 400+ whp without issues. I really think it was heat related issues leading to detonation which caused this. Even race gas can only help so much!

Ehh sort of. If there's a way to open up the top end with mods, keeping it under the danger zone, this still is a great platform. Either way, fftec is making some amazing power with some internals and a turbo. Should price out to be around the same as just the supercharger for the GT for the internals, turbo, and labor. (7-8 grand)

Its not a pipe dream.. Livernois is down in the 11's with this car with no issues. Keep in mind Livernois has been tuning ecoboost engines since they have come out. There so many different ways to tune some are safe some are not. Some tunes rely on jacking the boost way up for power. Some on tweeking the ECU.. Some doing both and alot of other stuff that i have no idea about. But i do know some ways if done the wrong way can make way to much heat and other problems were another way wont. Not to mention other parts involved like the type intercooler and everything else that comes into play. Theres like a million different things that come into play with tuning. I do know FORD will take one of these engines to the limit and see what it can do. And then they will release a Tune by the end of summer that will be warranty friendly and way below its power limit. And my guess is there tune will be a 33% torque increase just like the one for the 2.0 ecoboost in the Focus ST..

but at that point why not just buy a GT and the blower? would still be under warranty?i believe the eco is great for tuners but with this limit on the motor it will hinder its sales to that % of people that want to buy this car for that reason.

well i hope you are right. the only reason why the ecoboost crossed my mind was cause of the people it can produce and its a sexy car

Everyone is talking like this is the end of it's limits while seemingly not paying attention to the abuse it was being put through. Nothing will last long under these conditions!

This is the first time this happened.. Plenty of others out there tuning this car as well with no issues. It might even be an anomaly. you dont know. Dont jump to conclusions just yet also let FORD do there thing as well.

You're forgetting that first investment of the price difference between the GT and Ecoboost lol. It's what you prefer. I've had my taste of V8, I like the turbo 4 world better.

A full bolt on and safely tuned Ecoboost will still be quite the car, running mid to high 12s on some tires like Nitto NT05. That's plenty fast for a very reasonable price.

Dont worry yourself or think to much into this.. watch FORDs tune will be out by the end of the summer or begging of fall and im willing to bet it will produce 100 ft lbs of torque and be covered under warranty.

Just remember the Ford Racing warranty doesn't last too long. It's only 3 years and 36k miles.

so assuming i use and abuse the shit outta the 1st 3 yrs and it blows ill get a new engine? clearly doesnt make sense to me why they would make a high hp/tq tune that can compete with aftermarket tuners
