But, Ford didn’t realize anything. Thousands of owners staged a write-in campaign that caused the Probe/MX-6 to become what they were rather than the “new” Mustang.
The way I look at it, Ford knew they made a mistake because of public feedback.
Now, I don't see signs of them listening to us.
The marketing department tells us what to think, they assume that should only work one way, and good luck selling Explorers in the UK, France or Italy.

all these retards have to do is call it something other than a mustang and everyone will be happy. they don't understand that the tiny market of morons that think a 4 door mustang is a real mustang will always be shamed by most everyone else. you guys realize how many people don't even think non V8 mustangs are "real" mustangs? sure, they're wrong, but now apply that to a whole stupid chassis change.

we mock and ridicule idiots who bought mach-E's and this will be no different.
they're going to be laughed at by kids with ecoboost mustangs.

GM couldn't sell a 2 door Camaro what makes you think they will sell a 4 door? Maybe it will sell as terribly as the Chevy SS!
My gosh man. Camaro sold well initially then came the crying about visibility and ergonomics - which tbh, some of which is very true. The visibility issue is overstated imo because auto journalists have to be dramatic lol. Plus, I’m 6’3” so yeah.

Re: SS Sedan. GM U.S. entered contract with GM Australia to import no more than 12-13K LHD Holden Commodore SSV Redlines badged as Chevrolet SS Sedans from ‘14-17, VF/VF II chassis was slated for replacement after ‘17 already. All SS Sedans sold and are now holding/gaining value like GT350s. So, any article or Doug Demuro or otherwise YouTube video you’ve consumed stating the SS Sedan was a sales flop is clickbait that worked. Those clowns knew it was unit limited by contract from the jump.

Doesn't do Chevrolet any good now. GTO values are up and that was a sales flop too.

:giggle:

It was a sales flop. They had massive discounts, and they sat on the lots forever. Turns out nobody actually wanted a $40k car that looked like a Malibu/Impala.

Mock and ridicule idiots who bought Mach Es? Haha, that’s funny stuff. Where? On the forums? Keyboard stuff? No one has ever said Jack shit to me when I take our Mach E places. Just genuine interest and compliments.

And, even the young kids in the EB and Coyote coupes that I’ve gapped on rolls have been cool. Rear dash cams are cool!

we laugh at you constantly and because you don't matter we have no need to let you know about it... but rest assured... we're ALL laughing at you. NOBODY believes that abomination is a mustang.

especially if you think your battery powered explorer with a horse badge is cooler than quad cam V8 ripping through gears at like 8K rpms.

👀 👀 How many other GM products had the same 20% off that year? Dealers got allocated 1-2 SS at most and were trying hard to get more all 4 yrs it existed here. A few super dealers like Classic in Grapevine, TX got dozens due to high initial sales. They sold them to buyers all over the country.

Fair enough. But, right now, there’s a very vocal minority that shits on any plan involving Mustang naming for snythjng other than a 2 door coupe. Minority. Mostly older demographic that isn’t driving sales growth moving forward. The deal is already done, adapt or don’t.

I remember this same type of backwards thinking in ‘85 when the switch to EFI in ‘86 was imminent. I was only 11 but my step dad talked about it and the car magazines were flooded with letters about untunable, un-modable, impossible to work on EFI that was going to be slower and cost more.

How did that work out? ☠

It hurt hot-rodding. Guys were swapping back to carbs for a long time. It took a long while for the tools to come out and the knowledge to spread. Plus most of the early EFI setups sucked.

Back then you had to binary edit files and burn proms and all the tools to do so were incredibly expensive. It was the stone age. Have you ever worked on a Fox or early SN95 where you have to jumper the pins with a paper clip and count the light blinks and then look them up on a manual? You had to manually check sensors with multimeters etc?

It was the right thing to do, but we're spoiled now with $25 OBD II tools, mail order tunes, wideband o2s, sophisticated ECUs, $300 tuning devices...

If anyone here has seen the movie Moneyball, there’s a great line when Billy Beane is talking to his head scout because the scout doesn’t like the “new school” approach of analytics. He’s old school, the “eye test” so to speak. Billy flat out tells him his justification for the new approach, “adapt or die”. That’s how businesses have to think. As Holden mentioned, there’s competition coming into the space from right down the road at GM. Everyone here was bitching not too long ago that Ford is sitting on their hands because the Mustang competition left. Now, Ford is adapting because here comes competition and y’all are bitching. 🤦‍♂️
Exactly. And every MLB team has now had a dedicated analytics group for decades now. And the late adopters got left behind. Even College Baseball has had analytics depts for way over decade now. Pitch design labs and swing analysis cages are everywhere. Anyway…

Is the discussion more of Ford needing a 4 door sedan or a 4 door mustang? I bought the Shelby's for one reason and the Mach-e for another . Yes the Mach-e isn't a mustang BTW. You should see the owners over on the Mach-E forums thinking they drive mustangs. Not sure of the marketing dept and designing at Ford. They seem to be all over the place and have no clue what the Buying pubic actually wants. Name recognition only gets you so far and diluting a brand isn't a long term solution. I thought Ford killed all cars as there was no profit in them as most buyers wanted SUV or trucks
