I could use some help please, it's been a month of frustration and I can't figure this out.

When I connect my phone (Galaxy S21+), either wirelessly through an adaptor, or by plugging it in via USB cable, Android Auto does work (showing me Waze, which I use for navigation) but my music (Samsung Music ap) doesn't play unless I open the ap and hit the play button. Then my music will play, but I cannot go from one song to the next with the steering wheel controls. If I set the screen to show both nav and music, the music (media side of the screen) doesn't show any track listings or what's being played, the screen just reads "Media Unavailable".

Also, Android Auto used to auto-start, but now I have to start it up.

Everything was fine until about a month ago. Then I think there was an Android Auto update, and it's shit the bed. Everything is updated on the phone, and I just updated SYNC3. I've done a soft reset of SYNC3 also.

Help me M6G-Kenobi, you're my only hope.

Maybe have a look through the android auto settings on your phone. settings/apps/android auto/additional settings in the app... there you should be able to find "Start android auto automatically" what apps to display on the cars screen and lots of other settings. Also, when you say you have to start your app then press play before music starts, are you saying you have to do that on your phone? or on the vehicle screen?

I agree with LyveMyce in checking the Android Auto settings but would add looking at the operating system is up to date, Samsung Music settings too. I run a similar setup with wireless adaptor via Pixel 6 Pro & Waze but shifted to Cyan a few years back, as update to Sync & Maps in Oz are slooooow. For me Android Auto seems to have stabilised over the past few months, with updates to OS & AA, not just in my car but various rentals I've used for work.

Thanks for your ideas. Every suggestion is appreciated.

Yeah, I've checked every setting there is. Googled everything I can think of.

I have to open Samsung Music and hit the play button to start music. And then I still don't have the ability to skip tracks, or see the tracks on the car's screen. All I see is "Media Not Available".

The issue is that Samsung Music doesn't work properly through Android Auto when connected to SYNC3.

That's really strange... It almost seems like it's playing more as an auxilary input than through Android Auto. do any other apps on your phone work through android auto? Google Maps or anything else?

Well....Google Maps is on the phone, but I don't use it. I like WAZE.

Do you think Google Maps is causing the issue? I'd happily delete it if possible. Sometime aps can't be deleted.

ETA; I disabled it, and I'll see tomorrow if that fixes things.

Do you have another vehicle you can connect your phone to and run AA on?
That might tell you if it's phone or Sync related.

Has the phone ever worked with the sync unit before? Did you try a master reset on the sync unit? Also, have you tried to fully patch with the current sync version over at cyanlabs? Maybe worth a shot to baseline and try it again.

I've ALWAYS had routine issues with Android Auto back when I was on my S21. It wasn't until I got a new phone that it resolved.

What you're describing is a permissions issue, either conflicting with Samsung's OneUI, or with Android itself. You have to play around with your AA settings to see what fixes it, or get a new music player app.

I've been old school, so I always burn discs or use USB drives, haha.

I'll add, I have a Samsung Fold 7 and a wireless Motorola MA1 android adapter and have no issues with AA using it wirelessly. Use waze, xmradio app and Samsung music no issues.

I don't think that's what was being suggested at all.

Still nothing. I've checked every permission there is over the last month, including AA.

I'll check for a different music-playing ap, maybe the problem is with Samsung Music.

I'm considering doing a master reset of SYNC3. That will clear out all the Blue Tooth previous connections and let me start fresh.

The soft reset did nothing.

ETA; Google AI had some information that was specific. AI might be useful after all. Trying them now.
