The 6510 is the stock heat range for the gen 3, it is one step colder though for a gen 2 car like mentioned. Either way a 6510 should not be used for boosted combos because out of the box they come at .044 gap and ngk never recommends closing the gap more then .008 it causes the electrodes to longer be parallel increasing wear and misfires. Not sure why any tuner would still recommended a plug that was only used because that's all that was available in 2011. There have been better options for years now.

gotcha, when I was reading around this thread I saw mostly ngk6510 as recommendation so I ordered that because wengerd never answered me in my original email about spark plugs, he only sent that info after i bought the tune. I’m only doing g2 and 120mm so he thinks it should be fine

From my email from Wengerd yesterday on plugs....
On plugs use NGK6510 gapped to .026

There are a couple places that I see rhat list pregapped. Some panda place lists a 48hr process to gap to keep from jacking them up. Figured id order those.

FWIW... I have been running the 6510s since I put the blower on 3 years ago with the 120mm pulley, then went to E85 and the 100mm pulley for last 2 years, I haven't had any issues with them at all, I just put new ones in about 2 weeks ago.

I do have a set of Ford Performance plugs (M12405M50A) that I bought with my Ford Points and I will try those out after this set is ready to be changed.

I've been running them for awhile but did have a breakup issue when I first installed them due to not gapping them tight enough. I believe the first heat cycle expands the gap a little bit. So if you gap them, gap them very tightly.

If 6510s are the wrong ones then what are the proper plugs?

yea so what I’m taking away from this is the ford performance ones might be slightly better on high boost, but most of you still run and recommend ngk6510s for boosted setups so it should be good? I fought with cylinder 4 too much to change these out already lol. Maybe if theres issues on startup
Ive used both FP and 6510s and 6510s last longer/ better in my experience. They should work just fine for you

Use the m50a motorcraft spec ngk plugs. They come gapped at .030 so closing all the way down to .022 if needed is acceptable they also come with an electrode arm designed for boost that is much stiffer then the 6510. The reason you're seeing inconsistent gapping from the 6510 is because of the weak electrode arm and also the very premature wear from the electrodes not being parallel dosen't help either.

On average I see 2 times the life with the m50a over the 6510. Also a little more hp and less misfires. If people even knew how the 6510 plug became so popular noone would still be using or recommending them. It works but there are just better options.

It's funny I've been saying this for quite a while and more recently you're starting to see some mainstream tuners recommending them now. I use to use the m50a plug before ford even had the rights to it and it was still an ngk part number.

I haven't had any issues for quite awhile since re-gapping them FWIW.

Everything you've ever told me so far in the past couple years has been spot on. So I'm going to order these plugs and compare the performance. I'll see if I get any additional timing at WOT or better gas mileage. Thanks!

Since you're boosted and probably already running the proper timing for your fuel you probably won't benefit much from anymore advance but you will see longer life with them and less high rpm misfires. It might not be something you can feel in the seat but it would be shown on a dyno.

Good info. Ordered a set. I briefly read a small post where whipple was recommending these plugs I believe.

Getting close to done, I’m about 20 hours in, has been a hell of a few days. Literally everything I’ve done has been the first time doing it. Injectors and spark plugs alr done so just bap and oil change after this kit is finished
