Does the 3.55 gear ratio increase acceleration by a significant amount? Also, what kind of losses to top speed are incurred by selecting it?

You won't lose any top speed as the car is limited to 121 mph. There is a difference in acceleration, but for me not enough to outweigh the fuel economy losses due to the higher cruise speed. Maybe 2-3 tenths quicker to 60 at the very most.

I got it because I wanted the max stock performance. I still haven't driven a 3.15, but I can say the 3.55 feels like a torquey car. At the end of the day, you might suffer a 2-3 mpg difference but that's like $150 max a year for 10,000 miles.

In any case, Ford Racing will be selling all the ratios for $180. You're not stuck with what you buy.

I would say the mileage loss is going to be 1 mpg or less. I went from 3.23 to 3.55 in my Baracuda and didn't see any mileage loss.

I doubt you will see any recognizable MPG loss, maybe if you do solid and only highway driving. Around town you might get better mileage.

Is the stock gear ratio (for example, my GT Premium) 3.15, 3.23, or 3.31?

I thought it was 3.31.. I also thought the 2015 Mustangs only have 3.31, 3.55, 3.73 gear ratios, I didn't know about the 3.15 or 3.23

Autos are 3.15 standard, 3.55 option

Manuals are 3.31 standard, 3.55 optional and 3.73 with the Performance Pack.

Ah, perfect! Thanks!

Do you know by any chance where I could find the RPMs at various speeds for the 3.31's? I've tried searching the forums, but I might be entering the wrong search terms for it, I can't seem to find it.

There are any number of online calculators that you enter the top gear ratio of the transmission, rear end ratio and tired outside diameter to get the engine rpm at various speeds. Try Randy's Ring and Pinion, they have calculators on their site.

In a V6 at least, yes. I drove a 3.15 and a 3.55 back to back, and there was a significant difference. Test drive both to see if the difference is worth it to you.

i totally forgot about the limiter. In any case, reading this thread tells me that I can't really go wrong with a 3.55 :headbang:

I love the 3.55 with the auto. Definitely a lot quicker than the 3.15s. Pulls nicely off the line.

What about manual? Acceleration differences should be the same regardless of trans type correct?

Much quicker and worth it if you like having fun while driving and the car isn't just transportation for you.

I believe that for the 5.0 models, this governor/limiter is now set at 155mph. Also, the EB is 149 and the V6 is 121. This is to the best of my knowledge, however I could be mistaken :D
