I don't care for their sales team much myself. Do not prejudge service based on sales. Again their A10 tech is the best around.
I can seek them out if need be. Since I already paid for coverage on it, I’d rather not go other routes until I need to. But thank you for the info. Hopefully I don’t need to find out.

I think the smoke is unrelated to the trans if it is coming out of the tail pipe. Now the question is what is it? oil? Coolant....
I will look under the hood when I get a chance and see if there is anything I notice. And when I can get underneath it. I don’t know for sure where the smoke comes from. Both times, another car behind me tells me. They just say “it’s smoking”. I stop, turn the car off and look. Never noticed anything and it’s not smoking anymore. It’s really tough to say. I couldn’t get it to do it again the other day (I didn’t want to go that fast), but it never broke 195 and I was driving for almost an hour.
I only suspect trans because that’s the sensor reading telling me it’s high. So maybe the smoke isn’t from the exhaust?

Possible. Something else to keep in mind. There is a cool down strategy in the PCM with a different shift schedule when the trans gets hot. But 195 is general where it runs if it still has the internal thermal bypass.

Gotcha. Thanks for all the info. Since my trans is covered, I think my first step is to have the dealership take a look at it. It’s my cheapest route. A buddy thinks possibly the valve body from what I’ve said. The car only has 33k miles on it though, so this isn’t something I expected to replace this quickly.

It's one of the weak points along with the CDF drum. Sticky valves. Wobbling solenoids. Sonnex has reinforcement clips for the solenoids

Northside. Ray skull man was pretty rude and argumentative last time I went in to buy a car a few years back, so I’m not really interested in giving them any business. I got this one through Tipton ford. I don’t doubt they can get it corrected, but more so trying to figure out what exactly the issue is. I get that it was 92 degrees outside. But my last trans never once had this issue at any point, so something is not right.
"Skull man" 🤣. I bought my Platinum F-150 from that dealership back in 2011 when I was stationed in Indiana. Small world

Ha freaking auto correct😂 I used to work at a school he sponsored because he has family that went there. Nothing against him personally, but his sales people are the worst. They argued with me what my last mustang was. That was fun. If I was selling it to him, I would’ve said sure, it’s got all these extra packages lol

For anybody following this, I have been emailing with Tipton ford since the powertrain warranty is my cheapest option to start with before looking into anything aftermarket for cooling. He is supposed to be speaking with his “engineer” he says. In the meantime, I’ve begun tracking data from the dash for most drives. Noting (post drive) trans temp, outside temp, drive mode, and drive time. As of today, noticing normal mode seems to be completely fine, never going above 156 so far. Sports plus mode is when temperatures start going crazy. Most notable right now was a 20 min drive in sports plus hitting 203 when 78 outside. Will update for anyone following.

Tipton Ford stopped responding and ignored me. My final response was asking if there is an option to pay the deductible and they replace the trans. I didn’t expect a simple yes, but figured I’d try. They ghosted me completely.
I got a tune for 93 and E85 from Wengerd. Problems never came back. Not once. So it wasn’t mechanical if a tune fixed it. I’m guessing the stock tune had an issue, but can’t confirm for certain.

I've had this happen several times. My trans is built with Suncoast Stage 2 upgrade. I also have a 3600 converter. Each time this has occurred I was cruising at 70-80 mph
minding my business and someone comes along and challenges me and I'll punch the gas to the floor. The car will downshift to about 4th from 10th and shortly after this will occurr. When, I explained all this to my mechanic he just stared at me and shook his head. He told me he was happy to hear his work could stand up to such idiot behavior! He told me to think about what I'd just told him. The part where I was going 80 punched it and the trans shifted from 10 to 4 and I was upset it started to smoke. I just got quiet.

That was my initial thought also, but it also did this when I paddle shifted down before going WOT. It’s totally correct, you’re asking for the trans to do something outside of a normal behavior.

I haven’t changed anything from before or after the tune, but problem seems solved. So I moved on from that. The odd thing to me is my first A10 never once had a problem and it was stock.

This one has a Steeda hardcore CAI with sleeve removed, E85. It’s enjoyable enough for now. How’s that built trans treating you?

It's awesome! I have no complaints. Im Wengerd tuned as well and the shifts are firm and crisp. 235° fried my original. That was the reason it had to be built. I didn't even realize it had overheated when it happened. I was in traffic in sport+ driving spirited. Then all of a sudden it was up in temps. I put it in normal and drove softly back home with no problem. The next time I crunk it up it made horrible grinding noise when I put it in gear. My trans also has a thermal bypass now to keep temps down. It takes forever for it to get to 200° now. It costed me a really pretty penny but I have peace of mind now that the weakest link is now solid.

Did the E85 tune wake it up quite a bit? Torn between that or an Ess g2.
