Coyotes sound pretty awesome with a good exhaust. Be grateful you’ve got a V8 and not an ecoboost or a tesla.
no doubt. The S-Type paired with the H-pipe I currently have is a head turner for sure and I get a lot of compliments on it. My search isn't driven by dissatisfaction with my current system, rather curiosity and ultimately a desire to have that GT350 sound. The Coyote is very raspy and I don't care for that. The GT350 sounds more throaty and clappy.

I've had a few setups
  • '16 Stock - tame
  • stock + H-pipe - nasty rasp on cold starts for a few minutes, then it was ok. Tone wasn't great. A bit harsh.
  • stock with resonator put back and a Roush AB - loud enough and great throaty sound. Not raspy but not timind either. Big upgrade in sound quality over the H-pipe and stock mufflers.
  • resonator + Corsa AB - a bit quiet but great tone.
  • Voodoo w/ X Pipe and the Corsa AB - loud and boomy above 4k, but sounds good. Really its a bit loud inside the cabin

None of them were raspy except the stock + H-pipe and that was terrible on cold starts but not too bad, just a bit harsh all the time.

I can imagine that an AB with an H pipe would be rough. You'd need a really good set of mufflers, not just any old loud pair.

My 2c is stick with a resonator, either factory (which are a bit heavy but they're straight through pipes so they flow great) or an aftermarket resonated X. They cut the rasp, is kind of their job. Then because they also cut volume a little, you can use one step louder axle-back and it won't be so sensitive to getting the right axle-back. Without a resonator, the mufflers have to do ALL the work for volume AND tone and its not easy to find a pair that will not be raspy if they're also loud.

The GT350 has a resonated X pipe, and then the active exhaust. Its perfect because you get that GT350 character at reasonable volumes 90% of the time and then its loud when it needs to be when you get on it.

The GT350R ditches the resonated X for a lighter and louder non-resonated X pipe, same active exhaust, and its pretty loud. Very much so for a street car. However they picked the mufflers knowing they'd be running w/o a resonator and I'm sure they iterated a lot on getting the right pair to get the right amount of rasp w/o ruining the character.

The GT350 has that warbly Chewbacca exhaust note but also at certain frequencies it has that supercar-esque wail which is awesome. You're never gonna be able to replicate it on a GT

Good luck.

I know I’m the minority but the FPC that Ford makes doesn’t hold a candle to the Corvette or Ferrari.

I wouldn't even chase it. Just get rid of the high end rasp and your good.

I was able to find a solution. I pulled of the entire Borla system and had an AWE Touring catback system installed. After having to sound dampen the trunk area because the interior volume was too loud, I have it dialed in just right. It's not the GT350 exhaust tone, but it's the best thing I could get to it. Sounds fantastic. Absolutely zero rasp. None.

Haha not it isn’t lol. I don’t think there is a better sounding car ever made honestly. I will say the AWE “down revs” sound pretty darn tasty as well
