Exterior rear view mirror goes crazy when changing seat memory

Hi there,

sometimes when I switch between seat memories, the rear view mirrors start adjusting and it appears they reach the end of the range and they start making a clicking noise. The noise is similar to the sound of a nut reaching the end of the lead screw. The mirrors jerk a little bit. Have any of you encountered this problem? This is a loud noise and it doesn’t happen all the time so I suspect this should not be normal. Thoughts? Thanks.

Sounds like the mirror adjust control is activated and held until it reaches the end of its travel. That's normal when the mirror adust is held 'on' for too long. I'd make sure that your mirror control selection switch is in the middle notch (neither left nor right mirror selected) and that youre not accidentally engaging the adjustment when you press the seat button. Otherwise, there's probably a wiring problem in the door around the seat selector button.

My 2019 did the same thing when I brought it home with 27k on it. I was setting a seat preset and the passenger mirror did the same thing, not sure if the drivers did too. I have no idea what happened. I never switch seat positions so I haven't seen it again. Let me know if you find anything.

It’s all rumor mind you, but I heard when that happens it’s 7 years bad luck.. Those electrical gremlins are the most annoying. Good luck.

Mine does the same thing, I simply choose a different memory setting then back to the one I selected in the first place. Never bothered to figure out why...

My 17 did that. When it happened, I just hit the memory button again and it will stop.

My 19 GT Premium does that every so often for no apparent reason. I just choose a different memory setting and it stops, then I go back to my preferred MyColor scheme.

Not the only glitch I've seen, the dash has blinked a couple of times and once the car just died and I had to restart. But they're so rare I never really sought a cause for any of them.

That makes sense. My 17 did it about once a week, but my 23 has never done that in the 2.5 years I've had it.

Thanks, all, for the info. I don’t think I can fix it myself so I’ll continue dealing with it. BTW, you can stop the problem by pressing any arrow that moves the mirrors.

One or the other of mine does it from time to time. I have a different setting for reverse that only changes the mirrors and not the seats. I select that setting, then go back to the drive setting, and it's good to go. I back into the garage to park, so I use the second setting a few times a month when I drive the car. Hmm, just checked my MyQ app and see I haven't opened the garage door in 25 days where the Mustang is parked. Looks like the temps will hit 60 this week, so better take it for a drive.
