I love hearing all the boogie man stories about California from a bunch of people that have never been there coming from a place that has the same actual problems. Never ceases to amaze me what kind of monsters they dream up.

The bill is expanding on previous laws criminalizing such devices by increasing the fines associated with manufacturing and distributing them, which were previously set at $250.

The law also bans shaded and tinted license plate covers in addition to devices which physically manipulate the plate’s orientation to hide it.

This has nothing to do with "communism" and more to do with enforcing existing laws designed to let the government properly identify the vehicles on their roads. Whether the intent is toll enforcement or simple identification, required display of plates is widely-accepted in (probably) every state.

I wish my state would actually enforce existing vehicle laws like this one. Almost every single day I'm on the road I see vehicles with tinted license plate covers (illegal), no plates (illegal), super dark tint (illegal here) - including on the windshield (super illegal), obvious mechanical and safety issues (illegal), "youts" driving quads and dirt bikes on the street (including major 8-lane roads, obviously illegal), or drivers running red lights or passing on the shoulder or suicide/center lane. Hell even using your phone while driving is illegal and should be enforced. Last summer I was behind a woman on a Vespa-like motorcycle talking on the phone while swerving around traffic, using the shoulder and even dedicated turn lanes to pass cars. Oh, and they didn't even have a license plate. Just complete disregard for the social contract we agreed was required for people to drive on public roads.

Should get even more interesting with the whole Montana plate loophole being closed with so many folks not paying taxes and registration fees on their expensive vehicles.
Finally those license plate readers are being used for good use to prove the car is actually used and operated in Cali for extended periods of time.

There will always be people trying to scam the system. Instead of worrying about "plate flippers", they should be cracking down hard on people with no insurance. Colorado roads are full of people that refuse to pay for insurance, and will flee the scene of a crash at all costs unless their vehicle is immobilized. Leaving the victim not only injured in many cases, but also left with all of the financial responsibility.

Also, it should be waaaaay harder to get a drivers license. People that can't even speak or read English, and come from countries that have very different traffic laws and rules of the road, are easily granted a drivers license, to then cause crashes because they don't understand the rules, and they can't read the signs. Then you have everyone else that is simply just a terrible driver, and it is because the system doesn't require any sort of training or certification that a person actually understands how to operate their vehicle. A drivers license should be a privilege that you have to earn, not handed out like a Sam's Club membership card to any moron.

You obviously also have comprehension and reading issues, you were talking about the people leaving communist California, it is fair therefore to infer that those people leaving are not communists but, in your second post, you state that Kansas do not want those communist leaving California to go to Kansas….

Like anywhere else, California has it's good and bad aspects. I moved here in '87, and it would take a lot to make me move. I really like the area where I live, as I have access to beaches in about 15 minutes, access to larger city things like sports and concerts, but am only about 20 minutes away from some mountain roads that are fun to drive (where my profile pic was taken). I can get to the Eastern Sierras in about 4 hours by car and pretty much be in the middle of nowhere if I want to get away from it all.

That said, it's got some crazy stuff too, and ridiculously high taxes on things. As long as Prop 13 holds, my living expenses should be pretty reasonable, but if they repeal that, that's when I move, because my property taxes will skyrocket.

As far as this article goes, like others have said, I don't see it as a big deal because it's not making anything illegal that wasn't already. I don't think people should be able to hide their license plate to avoid paying tolls, etc., so this isn't really much of an issue.

California is imploding on itself, as I watch it firsthand. I too have an exit plan to escape this anti internal combustion, high tax, where they excel at crazy. If it was not for having a business here and getting close to retirement, I would have pulled the ripcord a while ago. Got a plot of land in Arkansas, and plan on letting the Shelby roam freely once there. Can’t wait!

There are a TON of really bad ass country roads in NW Arkansas and a lot of them have great views as well! Push Mountain is a fun one, especially back up the mountain!
