Replaced my driver side wheel hub the other day. Checked for play and I hear a metal to metal sound when rocking at the horizontal position ( 3 o clock and 9 o clock) with the wheel and tire on.
I traced the sound to the knuckle (outboard side) where the toe link is.

When I put some pressure on the pp1 toe link the sound is gone.

I have the upgraded fp toe link bearing and rear lower control bearing from BMR installed.

Im thinking its no big deal , just due to upgraded bearing sounds instead of rubber bushings.... but any 2nd opinions?

Heres a video where I ID the source of the noise.

Should be no movement or noise. I just recently replaced the toe link bearing in the driver side knuckle for the same reason. Only lasted about 30k miles iirc.

@djcodeman I have the same play/noise. If you hold your fingers on the FP bearing, you can feel it moving (I can on mine at least). I only noticed when installing some monoball bearings, so I'm not sure if any play existed when I first installed the FP knuckle to toe link bearing.

How many miles do the bearings have on them?

@thelostotter Mine feel the same on both sides, but since I installed them about 50k miles ago with many track and autocross events, I assumed it was wear... But just to confirm, you had to replace your FP knuckle to toe link bearing or the stock one? I destroyed the stock bushings and bearings after a couple events lol.

I would not leave it that way. Replace whatever makes that noise.

It was a FP bearing that wore out. Replaced it with another one.

Less than 10k on the fp bearings, I think they are fine. Ill just chalk it up to modified car noises lol

I actually race my car and that would fail tech inspection. I have the same bearings and they don’t do that. You might even just have a loose bolt.

I'm going to replace mine in the next week or two. NVH isn't what I would I'd be concerned about. It's the play in the bearing. Dynamic toe is already an issue with the mustang rear end. I wouldn't want to add to it.

Define race? what org?

Most orgs aren't going to jack your car up and look for something like this, and if it's weighted, it won't be apparent during any suspension checks. Most orgs are looking for severe issues, classing compliance, and safety equipment. I do think it should be addressed, especially if you're going on track (double especially if you're new to going on track).
