Sadly the time has come to tuck my baby away. I usually use Public Storage since my house doesn't have a garage. My move in date was yesterday, but when I got to the unit and saw it's condition I couldn't leave my baby in there.

I ended up finding a pristine facility near my home that just opened. My BULLITT will be there until May.

Right now I'm fighting with Public Storage for a full refund on my reservation and I might bring my photos to the local fire Marshal if I don't get a refund ASAP!

Keep in mind the drive into the unit is over a solid curb that's about 7 inches tall... 🙄

Would any of you leave your baby in these conditions?

Hello; I see the images and do get your concerns. I am going to guess that you did not look at the facility before signing a contract. If such is the case, I do not see that you have a defense. But good luck to you anyway.

Great point, but in my past three winters I've agreed to a space (sight unseen) as I don't expect much from a 10 X 20 box, but this unit is well below expectations.

My case has already been escalated as I opened and closed my reservation same day as required by Public Storage's own guidelines.

I don't have a problem with it if the price matched the interior. How much are 10 x 20 rentals? Is the new place also insulated? An opinion question - if it was stored outside for the three or four months instead, it would have the same weathering as the other 9 months its outside. Only difference is snow instead of rain. Is reducing the weathering to 9 months instead of 12 worth the storage cost?

The Public Storage unit is also outrageously priced. $400.00 for the awful unit pictured made it unreasonable.

I actually found a brand new facility right down the street from my house for $139.00 a month. I'm much happier but still fighting Public Storage for my first month's rent back considering I never moved the car into that space. 🙄

Hello; I sort of doubt the contract/deal was about you putting stuff in the storage unit. Likely just that you rented the space and had an opportunity to do so. The thing likely will be the opportunity cost lost by the storage company. They could not rent the space to someone else because you had made a deal. That you want to back out of the deal and get your money back now does not fly. You are wrong on this one.

I agree I wouldn't leave my car or anything of mine in there. I do think you lost this month's rent though. Its an expensive lesson if they dont refund you . Always inspect before signing. Good luck I hope it works

I wouldn't leave my car in that spot but even if they fight you and you lose a month's rent I'd happily lose it for peace of mind and happy my car is in a good spot instead of worrying all the time about that roof caving in

Pal kept his new camaro in a storage unit. He went there one day to find all the garage doors has been painted lime green. Opened the door to find lime green overspray over the entire car (wheels, grille, trim, paint, lights i mean everything). To top it off, cold nights and warm days made the engine sweat. The entire engine, transmission and everything else aluminum was covered in a white powder (aluminum oxidation). The insurance the facility holds paid for the overspray removal, something like $3800. Of course that's after dealing with issues at the detail shop....

I wonder if the storage unit is willing to "trade" to a more acceptable unit. As for the step-up, I'm guessing a few 2x8 boards to act as a ramp may give you what you need for entrance/exit. As for the light, you may have already told them immediate repair is required, and if they balk, you can ask if they would like a codes inspector visit?

The insulation tears should not be an issue, however, the possibility of the insulation coming completely loose on the end and falling down could be a concern. While a codes inspector may not care about it, like he/she would the electrical situation, they may decide to address that issue ahead of the inspector visit to avoid other things he/she might see as red flags.

Hopefully the above gives some options.

BTW.. one other poster mentioned a trickle charger...I didn't see wall outlets, but there are light socket outlet adapters you can purchase to give you the ability to have the light still, and have outlet capabilities.

I have three cars in 10 x 20 spaces about 12 minutes from me. just because I don't have the space at home. I rotate them out every 10-14 days to drive a couple 100 miles, complete wash/detail, drive them back and cover them. I'm retired so its my therapy.
