Calling ford in the morning i just got the car used this summer and thank god bought the warranty just looking for any advice from people that have fought this battle with ford in the past and what to expect any advices would b appreciated. I absolutely love the car and it runs great but this just really stings already paid for winter storage and im sure my car will b at ford for atleast a month

Hello; I cannot help from experience but have followed several threads about similar repair work. You could do a search of course. if folks with experience do not chime in soon I will look thru some threads and post links.

Good luck.

So throw in some oil pump gears and a crank sprocket and you are on your way.
Hello; So much depends on how much, if any, small bits of metal circulated thru the engine. If the bits are gear teeth they could be from other than the crank. There are the double overhead cams with gear teeth.
Did you check the inside of the oil filter? Inside the folds.

Drain oil, new oil, filter, install OPG and CS and its a done deal.

Hello; I do get that replacing the broken parts can have the engine running. based on the OP's initial post i gather the engine was running and he did a pre storage oil change.
I admit i have not done such a job so I may be having concerns that are not warranted. But we each get to run our vehicles any way we wish.
My first engine rebuild back in 1966 did not go well. Wound up with a damaged crank journal which led to a trashed bearing. I would pull the oil pan & replace the crank journal bearing every 700 to 800 miles. Did that till I got a junkyard engine. Things I did when broke.

How many teeth are missing? How many did he find? If there are more that are not accounted for, they will come out in future oil changes. This is not an uncommon occurrence. He can replace the CS, move on and be happy.

Should he be worried about any smaller pieces making their way through the engine?

Anything is possible but the teeth seem to break in large chunks that come put when draining the oil. What the alternative? Tear the engine down? It's likely only missing one tooth which he found. He could pull the timing cover and see exactly how many are missing and go from there.

I think the bigger issue is buying a not very old car with a warranty and parts are falling off of it already. Not everyone has the time, space or experience to know exactly what to look for in a situation like this. It may not be a big deal to some folks, but not everyone can pull a motor apart.

To the OP, obviously look at the fine print of your warranty. Did you buy the CPO from Ford or is it a 3rd party warranty? Seems it's not your DD so that's fortunate at least.

He said "metal and peaces of the crank gear in my oil"

I mean I guess you have two options:

1. drain the oil and change it and it's fine
2. drain the oil and change it and it dies in the near future
3. remove/replace the engine

If 2 happens you're doing 3 anyway. So I guess it can't hurt to try 1.

I just see it happen too many times where people replace a single part and then the whole thing dies anyway because of debris.
