Imo the name change implies a much more narrow focus. Ford Performance offered the top the line for many of their vehicles. All three of my Ford cars are Ford Performance. Not sure they'll be offering an Explorer ST in the future with a Ford Racing door sill plate on it which I suppose is a good thing. In the future however, in the pipeline of cars Ford will offer, some of them will not be 'racing' level cars but will be higher performance than the base or mid level of whatever model. Ford Performance was more broad.
Personally I think it was a mistake for this reason. You don't build a legacy by changing logos and departments when you've steadily been building brand and name recognition for the better part of ten years. It's a huge waste of money as well.
