Unfortunately, I come bearing more bad news in this louvered glass window saga. 😢

I noticed a couple weeks ago that my passenger side window was also cracked in addition to the driver’s side I previously updated about. Except this wasn't just one crack, but SEVERAL across multiple glass panes. They're tough to see from the outside but very clear on the inside. Even the largest end panel that rests against the car (so you can’t see it from the inside) looks almost shattered.

I was horrified and immediately reached out to HPG again. My concern was that they say they'll only fulfill warranty claims once, and seeing as how I already contacted them about my driver's side window being cracked a few months ago, I was hoping there would be no argument about replacing the other side (I mean I bought them as a set so that logic made sense to me).

Long story short, their team doesn't believe the damage was caused by "normal wear and tear" and while they wouldn't normally send another replacement, they would do so given how unusual this situation was (and also for my patience/understanding while they investigated on their end). Their theory is something/someone pressed on the glass and caused fractures that grew overnight. And my counter to that theory is if that's true, why is it that every other panel is cracked (the two large outer panels and one center panel)? I feel like if a hand pressed down on the center of the glass, the three smaller inner panels would crack, not the outer two...? That sounds more like an issue with the product’s structural integrity to me but I have no way of knowing.

I was also warned to be careful when handwashing and mind the amount of pressure applied when wiping them down, which....again, I hand-wash this car myself. No person or machine has touched these windows but me since I brought her home and it's not like I've ever had to scrub these or apply excessive force, you know? Just spraying them down and running a towel over the surface to dry them is all I've ever needed to do.

I offered to use the shipping boxes to return the broken windows when I eventually have mine replaced, just so they can look at them up close and see if they can figure out what happened. I also asked for a recommended installer, as maybe someone more experienced would be better next time.

Overall....I unfortunately can't say I would recommend investing in these, only because their durability doesn't seem super sound/stable. The company has been great to work with and I appreciate them sending me two new windows but now I have to pay to have the new set retinted and reinstalled and go through that process all over again with no guarantee this new set won't crack a few months down the line.

They're beautiful and I love them still, I just wish they'd have held up better! 😢 I’d understand more if I took this car off-roading or did anything crazy with her, but she’s just my daily, lives in my garage half the day, and hasn’t even been tracked. I’ll continue to update if any further developments arise.

Thank you for the update. Not that it'll make your situation any better, but at least your saga might help someone else decide whether it's worth making that expensive investment.
If you're going to have to pay for another round of remove-and-replace, maybe it's time to go back to the stock glass, find a set of stick-on louvers you can live with, and try to sell the fresh set of fancy ones to recoup some of your investment. Just a thought...

Wow, thanks for the update. I’m sad to hear this as they really do look great. As you stated that’s a lot of cash to put out not only the first time but to do it again. I’m with Farkel above get the replacements and reinstall the originals. Then hopefully you can sell the replacements and recoup some of your money. I bought the stick on louvers from ebay and while I like the Hyperformance much better as You can actually see out of them. I think my $25 ebay specials will be staying on.

Ugh……man, you’re honestly probably right. 😢 I love this mod SO much but it might be smarter to find a new set of higher quality louvers to attach to the OEMs. I just loved this concept and execution and so wish these would have worked out for me.

For now, these will stay in as the cracks don’t seem to be growing. I’ve got some time to decide next steps and as always, I appreciate your insight and looking out for me! And happy Fourth to you too, btw 🩵

Yeah you guys make great points and it’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind when the time comes! I am very sad and I wish my experience with these had been better. 😢 If there’s an installer that HPG recommends nearby I may give this one last go, but we’ll see. Because I’m wondering if maybe my installer didn’t secure them in well enough or something…? Maybe they are somehow moving when they shouldn’t? Who knows at this point but at least I have options.

That sucks man. I’ve had them installed for about a year now and, knock on wood, they are fine.
I’m so glad they’ve worked out for you and am genuinely wondering if maybe my installer didn’t like….secure them in well enough? 🧐 or used an inferior glue or something…?

I’m going to see if HPG can recommend someone near me to do the next install. If not, then I may do as Farkel recommended and just sell these and invest in reinstalling the OEMs. I’ll keep checking in with you guys with any new developments!

Happy Fourth to you! :flag:
It's too bad there isn't an obvious answer. All of the other options for S550s are stick-ons, and to me they all look like they're just stuck on. I know how much you like yours and they do look really cool. If you just can't live without them, maybe you could get ahold of Brian (@Evolvd) and find out who installed his, then plan a little trip down to the Florida panhandle and give it another shot.

Honestly their recommendations don’t mean anything. All they do is point you to a glass shop but they don’t have any relationships with them to make any difference. The shop that installed mine cracked one of them by pressing on the middle of the pane when I specifically told them not to.

I know this is a old thread, just checking if there was ever a update as to what may have happened. I see in the classifieds here - there is a "new' set for sale.

I’m surprised those panels aren’t tempered glass or whatever type of glass auto glass is. Pushing too hard while washing them causes cracks? I mean, you might be the Hulk, but I doubt it.

It’s Gorilla glass. It’s a layered glass and polycarbonate sandwhich and is really thin. Once they are mounted on the car the window frame provides the strength to resist cracking. But if it’s not mounted it’s very flexible and easy to damage…as I posted.
