Recently acquired a 2019 Bullitt with a Whipple, I believe it's the 50 state legal version. Car came with no documentation, I am assuming it was tuned with the RTD from Whipple. I hooked my MPVI2 up and ran VCM editor, but I'm unable to pull the current tune. I set hardware to TC-298 and it says "Controller unlocker: Web exception, name resolution failure". I havent purchased credits for this car yet, but my understanding is I can pull the tune without credits. Am I missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can MPVI2 pull a tune that was uploaded by RTD?
It depends on if the tune has been modified and locked by a third party. Are you running the latest HPT beta? Are you certain the car is using the Whipple calibration rather than a third party custom tune?

I'm running 4.10.7, was hanging on to this older version for some of the things that may have been locked out of the newer versions. I can likely grab another laptop and run the beta to see if that helps.

My buddy bought the car through an auction site, the seller (dealer) bought the car from the original owner and hasnt been much help. Is there any way to tell whether it's running on a whipple calibration or a 3rd party tune?

Really appreciate the response and help.

If you can download it to hpt and open it, it’s probably a Whipple tune. There are a couple of other ways to tell. Also, you can run hptuners production and beta on the same laptop.

Great info, I'll download the beta and see if I can pull the tune tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys

4.10.7 is not current production, so I would be careful. I've been afraid to update to anything later or use the beta because it might force a MPVI2 firmware update. Can anyone confirm that you can go back and forth from 4.xx and 5.xx or later?

The other thing I'm wondering is if you can load new credits with the old version and no firmware update. I have a buddy that wants to remove VATS from his project C10 with a swapped motor and I'm not sure if I can help him.

From what I can tell the firmware will automatically update on the MPVI2+ if I use the newer VCM editor.

Are there major features that have been removed in the new VCM suite? Or are they enabled after taking the "course" on HPT and verifying I agree to the terms?

I don't know, I've never used anything past 4.10.7. Pretty sure you can't disable a check engine light, but that wouldn't bother me much. What I worry about is being able to turn off cat overtemp protection and FAOSC.

The MPVI2 will do a firmware update and it will limit to 5.0.1
Keep 4.XXX IMO.
The issue with keeping this is you will lose ability to tune some cars.

You will lose lots of parameters, taking the test only gets some back. I asked support about this and here is their answer.

"""The Advanced Parameter Access will give you access to parameters to tune within emissions compliance. The training does make a point of this and no where talks about giving access to defeat emissions.

The parameters you are given access to will not allow you to defeat emissions in any way.

HP Tuners designs and manufacturers software and hardware tools for vehicle diagnostics, scanning, logging, calibration, and data acquisition purposes. The authorized use of such tools is to bring a motor vehicle into emissions compliance and/or to maintain emissions compliance, as well as for use on competition/racing and other exempted vehicles. HP Tuners does not create or provide tunes or pre-made calibrations.
HP Tuners’ Terms of Use, policies and agreements mandate that users shall comply with all local, state, and federal laws. In using the HP Tuners software and hardware tools, you are representing, warranting, and agreeing not to use, employ or allow any HP Tuners tools to operate as a defeat device or to violate emissions compliance in any manner whatsoever. You further represent, warrant, and agree that the HP Tuners tools shall only be used by manufacturers, calibration businesses and professionals to develop emissions compliant calibrations.

The MPVI family of products are tools used to correctly calibrate a vehicle. Its proper use is to bring a vehicle into emissions compliance or to keep it in compliance. We do not support emissions related deletions of any kind.

I'm running the same version, not trying to disable CEL. The reason I bought the MPVI2 was to correct the tune on my C6, I don't want to lose that functionality.

Thanks for this info. Theoretically my MPVI2+ with 4.10.7 should be able to pull the tune from this 2019 Bullitt w/whipple. We don't know the history on the car, was bought at auction and came with zero documentation of the mods. The kit appears to be the 50 state legal version, with a CAI, and stock exhaust other than xpipe/resonator delete. Below are images of the error messages I received when trying to download the tune with VCM editor. Am I doing something wrong?

These kits came with the RTD, my understanding is I should be able to download the RTD tune with MPVi2+. The other possibility is the car was tuned and locked. Any thoughts on figuring this out?

Thanks for all the responses and help.

As far as I know a tune flashed and locked with RTD cannot be downloaded with MPVIx.

Two different file formats. I know I've tried to open RTD tunes with my MPVI2 and it doesn't work.

You would need PCMtec with custom OS option to open it I believe.

@Wengerd Performance or @Rolls Might pop in and give a positive answer
Maybe @engineermike knows

What version of HPT are you using?

I still think it is a locked tune but using the newest Beta might open it.
