When my brakes warm up they start to squeal when coming to a stop. Pad squeal is what it sounds like. Still plenty of pad left and rotors are healthy, I’m guessing this is just a normal thing?

I have a set of pads on the shelf, but visually it seems like there is at least 50% left on the current ones. I have only had the car 8 months, so I don’t know if this is normal or if I need a brake job.

Is this normal and just due to them being a race oriented brake setup? I have gotten used to all the rattling and piston slap the car makes when cold, but it’s different when I pull up to a stop light and the car is squealing like a hooptie

Do you happen to know if they’re stock pads (I’m willing to bet no)? Stock brembo pads typically won’t make much noise unless you’re worn down to the squeaker. Barring something being stuck in between the pad and rotor, sounds like maybe you have a non-oem pad on the car thats making noise. My track pads were SUPER noisy and annoying when they weren’t up to temp on the street.

Assuming you’re doing the work yourself, you have nothing to lose by changing your pads to the spare set and seeing if that solves the problem. You can always keep the current set as a backup.

Stock pads here. My brakes have squealed since I’ve had the car. It comes and goes. Only happens when slowing down and coming to a full stop. A small annoyance, but I live with it because the stock pads are incredible.

Normal. I've lived through this for many years with my old M-cars, and now my 2020 GT350. Not to worry though, just a byproduct of the pad material. I have noticed that if I do a good wheel cleaning, to include an iron remover, it'll get a lot of the junk out of the caliper and clean it up nicely, quieting them down for a bit.

From what I've read, light braking (daily driving) just adds to the noise. You need to get some good hard braking in every once in a while to prevent the noise. BMW recommended to do this every 200 miles for a commuter vehicle.

I get a squeal here and there as well. Usually goes away after a good stop or two. Stock Brembos in my setup. When it’s time to replace, I may go with an aftermarket ceramic pad. I’m willing to sacrifice a little stopping power, as my car is not raced, and will probably never see a track.

That’s likely what it is. Haven’t had any hard braking in a significant amount of time. They perform great, rotors smooth, just loud ass squeal with light braking when coming to a stop. I will beat on them a bit and see if it improves.

^^This. I have owned my GT350 for 8 years now and this pretty much sums it up from my experience. Lighter braking from normal driving eventually leads to squealing brakes (sometimes I feel like I sound like a city bus when I am slowing down for a light).

For me this typically will clear up after doing a spirted drive in the mountain roads with some hard braking. Another thing I sometimes do to clear this up (if it is really bugging me) is to find a long straightaway and really get on the car and then do a hard stop. This will get rid of the squealing brakes for a while.

It is all due to the material of the OEM brake pads. If you clean the rotors you can get it to go away as well until the dust starts to build back up again.

Annoying, yes, but I am willing to put up with it for how good this car can stop.

Big brakes will squeal sometimes. Embrace the squeal.

I agree regarding the stock pads. Even with all the brake dust, I am going with oem pads when I need new ones.
