Mach 1 Non HP Top Speed

Hey everyone, chatted with my local Mustang performance shop. So they say that Mach 1s, at least 10 speeds still are limited to around 155. So if anything me going faster was a surprise.

Still imagine Ford lying about Mustang top speeds. They’ve NEVER EVER done that before! Certainly never with S197 GT500 or Cobras for example

Ford knows well why they limit the top speed. Even GT500 with all its upgrades has 180 mph limiter. These cars are simply not built for high speeds, their aerodynamics properties, drag coefficient, suck.

Fair! I will say that my car was super stable at 157. Had an easy 5-10 mph left from a stability standpoint.

Stock HP 6M here too. Can confirm that the top of 5th is roughly 150mph (I might've hit 153mph - it's been a while). I've also ran 6th gear up to 140mph and it still had more left to it. Albeit 6th is extremely long so you're not gonna get up there fast, but it can do it (if you have enough road).

I've read the Ford numbers on top speed of 168mph and did the calculations on it awhile back with the euro spec rear-end gears and it matches up. I also confirmed this theory by watching POV driving videos of a Mach 1 owner driving their manual car on the Autobahn and their top speed in 5th was higher than the US Mach 1 in 5th.

All that aside, mine was very stable at those speeds. Car felt confidently planted. The speed was achieved without the gurney flap on it. Funny side note, slowing back down to 70mph afterwards feels like you're doing 20mph.

I believe there’s a forum member that was close to 190mph at Daytona in his GT500 CFTP (it’s stock too if I recall). So either that limiter didn’t kick in or Ford is full of BS. Either way, his car went beyond the supposed limiter.

yeah compared to my GT at 155 (which was manageable but felt a littler sketchier) the Mach 1 felt like it could hang out up there with zero issues

Calculating the theoretical max speed for 270/40R19 rear tires and 3.55 LSD at 7500 RPM with manual gives:
2.195 (circumference) * 7500 (RPM) / 3.55 (Diff) * 60 (minutes in hour) = 278 km/h (~173 mph).

I guess the rolling circumference should be less (~2% seems to be a reasonable adjustment), which would give 272 km/h (~169 mph).

I believe the guy on Autobahn had 272 km/h reported on dashboard, but he did not come close to the redline, nor the reported value is typically the real speed. From my observation, my dashboard computer reports approx. 3% more than what the real speed measured by GPS is.

Depends on the conditions but I'd agree, it's limited below what it's still fine at. Don't think it matters much if the car does 160 or 180 mph. What matters is how fast it gets up there.
I still haven't been to Germany to legally try it for a longer time, but 140 mph is super easy on a normal road and never felt any issues with stability whatsoever.

Or the most likely scenario... the speedo is not 100% accurate. An error of just 3-4% would put him right at Fords published electronic limit.
