Mach 1 Non HP Top Speed

What is the real world top speed of a Mach 1 non hp? Has anyone actually hit the 168 most frequently reported? The one time I tried, the car started up shifting in the low 150s and stopped accelerating at 157. Only 2 mph more than a GT. That struck me as odd. Does the mode you’re in change the limiter? I was in sport plus with track exhaust.

I think the 2mph difference was in the automatic vs manual Mach 1. My guess is the speedo is calibrated for HP wheels and tires on base Mach 1 and you are actually going 168mph not 157mph. Did you confirm the speed on GPS?

I believe the auto cars are electronic limited to mid 150's.. Not sure about the manual cars. I haven't tried :). I hit a buck 30 once not long after I got it just airing it out a bit... Was plenty fast for me :)

Speed and HP are not linear. The more air you push, the more HP is required to achieve a higher speed. 20hp over the GT is not much when considering aerodynamic limits. The aero limit(speed) of the Handling Pack is lower because of drag.

Speed and HP are not linear. The more air you push, the more HP is required to achieve a higher speed. 20hp over the GT is not much when considering aerodynamic limits. The aero limit(speed) of the HP is lower because of drag.
The Mach 1 is not limited to 168MPH because of drag but because of the tune. I went 185 MPH with the gurney flap attached.

the two mile per hour difference between as between my 10 speed GT and 10 Speed Mach 1. To be clear. But no I did not run a GPS. I know at lower speeds the speed is accurate. When I come up to a speed readout it matches what’s displayed on the guage. I cannot confirm from a second source how fast I was going when the car said “enough” though. ;)

oh that’s interesting. Where did you hear that? I did wonder if transmission choice played a role.

Stock HP 6M here. Top speed is 150mph which is redline in 5th (gps confirmed). I can validate what VictorH is saying, 6th is too tall to pull. 10A has tighter gearing ratios so it would be able to push a bit higher before falling out of the power band. 155-157mph sounds about right for the 10A. Ford must’ve done that 168mph run downhill.

Sad to hear you guys are slower than 2015 GT that hits tune limit at 160MPH in 6th gear. I have no issues going above 160 in 6th gear with e85 tune.

There are few factors which limit the top speed and may differentiate different configurations:
  1. gearbox - auto is, well, automated, so it is limited by the control unit. In the official spec. distributed here (Czech Rep.) Ford specified that both manual and auto are maxed at 262 kmh (~162 mph).
    In reality the manual is limited by gear ratio at the 5th gear because (as others noted) the car does not pull in the 6th. So the sustainable speed is achieved in the 5th gear and max RPM.
  2. differential - here the situation is pretty simple. The US cars sporting 3.73 torsen in manual, would get slower at max RPM, compared to export cars with 3.55 LSD (in manual). You can do the math (it is approx. 5% difference in favor of 3.55).
  3. tires - US HP cars with smaller tires (315/30R19) will get slower compared to non-HP variants with (270/40R19). (approx. 4% difference in circumference).

Its surprising how much extra HP you need to get even a couple of MPH extra.
Having driven a couple of cars at aprox 150mph when I was younger its not something I plan to do ever again.
