im going to a shop and getting 93 tuned today and will be getting their e85 tune in the future.

is there a tune device i can buy strictly to pull the tune files after they load them? i'd like to be able to switch between stock, 93, and e85 tune files.

is an sct or revX capable of doing this?

right, i know that. im looking for a tune device that can rip the files straight off the vehicle to the device. i dont have a device currently and the shop doesnt give one with their tunes- they just load them

So are you going to lose your stock tune since neither you or them have a device to store?I would hold off until you bought a device, I have a SCT, this way you can store your stock tune if you need to go back to stock to get something done at Ford. My SCT can after I download the tunes from my computer gives me the option to pick which tune I want to upload into my car.

I would not let them tune my car if you don't get a device with the tune. I think you are confused about what comes with the tune or they don't understand your question

the sct gave you the option to download the factory tune when you first got it? i think i will get one of those then. you're able to store it on your pc? or you just keep it on the device? if it can pull the factory tune it can for sure pull their files then.

When you first upload a tune into your car, your SCT will download your stock tune and hold it. The tune stays on your SCt. I get my tunes through email and then transfer them to my SCT.

nah they are a dyno shop. they have their own tools ai just want to be able to have access to my files instead of having to rely on them to load them for me everytime i want a change.

Doesn't sound right. How are they loading the tune on your car?

They should be able to load your tune onto a device or email it so you not held hostage by them plus if you need your stock tune and they are not open or go out of business then Ford will charge you to put it back in and overwrite the current tune. so it is best to have a device to store the tunes.

Ask them to email you the file and buy an RTD, the SCX tuner probably won't work.

you're probably right with getting an RTD. not that it's a p.i.t.a to use a RTD but my old Cobb device for my old car was great. could just pull off any tune that was flashed whenever i wanted and move it to my pc.

I, admittedly, don't have any first hand knowledge of tuning devices but it doesn't sound like what you want to do and the way this shop works are compatible.
What you want sounds reasonable, you just want to switch between tunes without incurring repeated shop visit charges. From your description it doesn't really sound like the shop is on board with that idea.
If you're determined to use this shop perhaps you could buy a device and save the stock tune before you take the car in. Then after it's tuned, save that tune as well. Or does their device "lock" the tune so only they can alter or replace it.
Honestly, if the shop isn't willing to work with you on this I'd be a little concerned.
