If I bought one of the Bama tuners with a custom tune, or something similar. Does the car have to have a stock tune in order to use it?

American Muscle is the one telling me this, just wanted to clarify.

Bought the car without a tuner, so I don't know exactly what tune is on it.

No, it will save whatever tune is currently on the car whether its the factory stock tune or someone elses as the stock tune. But please, please, do some reading before you even consider the words Bama for tunes.... Lots of threads of good options for you out there. Bama is not one of them.

I say Bama because that's what I've always seen around my local scene. I'm not sure what other tuners are available. I know SCT has affordable options too.

Research my friend. You have lots of reading to get caught up before you make a purchase. Bama was decent back in 2011... SCT is just the tuning device you would never want to load their default tune for your car. Look up RTD and Avid as the two newer options for tuning devices and look up Wengerd or a few others for getting your actual tune. Give @beefcake a shout and he can help explain and get you setup properly with what you are going after.

That's kind of scary.

Keep in mind that Bama tuners are just an SCT device with a Bama label on it. So you can use that tuner to load any tune you want.

Almost everyone in my area uses BAMA as well. They have no complaints.

When i think Bama nowadays.... I think about that special aisle at Auto Zone that we all know....
What makes it worse than anyone else? What other handheld tuners does everyone use? There's so many to choose from.

They just got a bad wrap for blowing motors, crap shifting, etc... so nothing too big.. lol

I've used Palm Beach, Lund, and Wengerd between the few S550's i've had over the years. Currently Wengerd has these dialed in and gives quick replies/support and transactions. I just use a RTD3 device to load the tunes and log. It's pretty simple.

Did you buy the RTD device from their website?

Yes, makes it easier. You can buy the device and tune at the same time. You get the device, save your stock tune, sync it to them within the app, and they send you back down the tune you order. You load it and enjoy. You also datalog it to make sure its safe which is also an easy process using the RTD and TDN app.
