Good luck getting them turned off. My 2012 GT had them and I tried almost everything short of rewiring the entire thing. In the s197 its controlled by the smart junction box and I had ford go in with the computer and they couldn't do it
It (can) be done by someone who knows how to "properly" use the Vehicles Smart Junction Box and the IDS Programmer. I`ve had a 2011 Fiesta and a 2013 C-Max DRL`s (enabled) and activated when some Dealer Service Dept said it couldn`t be done. Just need the right Tech with "geek" knowledge.

Sounds like a ridulous amount of work for a pointless goal to me. You can't see them when your driving the car and only for a few seconds when you get out. The vast majority of people clearly think they look cool. So if you don't see them and they like them then why do this?

Sorry I didnt read the whole thread;)

I agree with ecoswag...i don get it y people have problem with it.. they look cool and also thats the catchy part of ur car... if don like it why bloody buy this car.....DRL are a norm... bec they inc safety for other drivers. when its raining... or twilight time... people here are give more stress" OHHHHHHHH i don like it" What abt people safety.... always remeber " Your freedom ends where my nose begins" . So its imp we care abt other safety .. if we expect us to be safe on road

I always enjoyed just the side running lights on with the actual head lights off. Then I got the raxiom halo lights which look a lot better without the headlights being always on. Purely superficial reasons.

Sid is correct. FMC is one of the few Auto Manufacturers selling their Vehicles in the US that don`t come standard with DRL`s. The lone hold outs, Chrysler, Mazda and Nissan having been transitioning their fleet to DRL`s for 15`. The NHTSA has been dragging their feet for decades now attempting to "prove" whether DRL`s slightly reduce Crashes or not. Do they (increase the likelihood) of causing a Crash? Most of Western Europe and Canada have mandated DRL`s years ago. Its not for you the (driver) its for oncoming traffic to better see (you) so they won`t come in contact with you in adverse weather conditions. Don`t confuse your Second Amendment Rights (Gun Ownership) with DRL`s. Let DRL`s be the biggest "freedom" you give up thanks to the heavy hand of the Federal Government. Next conspiracy theory.......lol

Lets see this scenario with a different prospect.

U don like DRL.. fine... u get them removed... and u run ur car in low light/rain ... I have a BFT( Big F Truck)... I ram ur car head on... Y bec i couldn see u.. y bec someone didn like DRLs... i agree its my fault as well but at the same time... its urs... that y the hell ur lights were off in low light situation just bec u don like DRL.... who is at loss.. i have a truck ... solid... ur mustang lovely pony in trash....

Ford has made DRL in these mustangs as 3 bars.. intelligent move... adds up the style factor and also secures u more...

It appears I don't have the "Configurable" lighting, and I can't turn off the DRLs...Oh well, I Guess I'll live with it!:headbonk:
Unless they made your vehicle to Canadian Specs, it can be disabled. If yours was mistakenly a Canadian S550, your Fog Lights would be Halogen instead of LED and would be illuminated all the time as DRL`s.

Something has to fill the Gap between "hood prop-rods" and the ugly "transparent" coolant overflow tanks, right?
I started the thread because I hate being forced to use things that are completely unnecessary. No idea this many people would reply.

Most folks felt the same way about mandatory use of Seat Belts & Shoulder Belts too.

daytime running lights. those stupid **** lights that run ALL THE TIME. If I choose OFF on my lights, I want them off.
You know that DRL make your insurance cheaper right?

And the reason why is you are less likely to get into an accident.

Do you really still want to disable them? :)

Damn right! I`m a American (not) a Canadian and I ain`t gonna let the Federal Government tell me jack squat what to do unless I (think) I actually want to do it, anyway. Now let me go back to watching Duck Dynasty & Honey Boo Boo, ok? LMAO

How are there 400+ posts discussing DRLs?
A valid question, especially since the "DRL's" on the American spec mustangs we're discussing are mostly for looks anyway.

Not only us Canadians cannot disable the DRL, but we cannot disable the fog lights as well. Apprently the DRL on the s550 do not meet Canadian guidelines for DRL so they need to have the fogs on during the day time. :frusty:
