Just because you say something, doesn't make it true.

Also: It isn't about you. No regulation or law or rule is about any one person. It's about what's statistically likely to be more beneficial or less beneficial to society as a whole.
My opinions are supported by my driving record, which certainly has statistical predictions associated with it. Other peoples' statistics may not support the same thoughts.

What I hate is when I hit my breaks the lights on the back come on. Suggestions on how to disable that?

I can just imagine Norm driving around at night with headlights off thinking to himself "f**k im the best driver here - everyone else needs those "Nanny" headlights"

You guys seem to think I never use any lights during the daytime unless it's raining. You're mistaken; there are times when I do, and they will typically be on precisely during the most critical times. On edit, when I rode motorcycles, I always had my headlight (and taillight) burning. Wouldn't think of riding with them off.

When you can find a way to reduce zero accidents by 5-15%, please let me know.

See my earlier comment on comparing ground vehicles against aircraft. It's not the same situation. Even this Aviation article makes the same distinction.

It appears I don't have the "Configurable" lighting, and I can't turn off the DRLs...Oh well, I Guess I'll live with it!:headbonk:

Have you ever been in a classroom where the teacher drones on and on to the point where it's like the Peanuts cartoon and all you hear is garbled noise? Looking back I wish I would have just stood up and left the room. I think my time would have been better spent. Although it was fun mocking the teacher and trying to get her to digress. But anyway, I think time is better spent somewhere else today...

without the need for manual intervention
It all comes down to that, no? Feel free to consider what that implies.

If it makes you feel any better, as I get older I probably will at least run parking lights under a wider variety of conditions. Can't run DRLs on cars that don't have them, and no, I won't backfit any.

On this subject: I almost got hit today driving to work; if the vehicle that almost hit me had DRL's, there would have been no risk of an accident.

It was raining like crazy, and so visibility was limited. I was driving down a one-way street when a panel van blew a red light and came through the intersection from my left. Luckily, it slammed on the brakes and I was able to swerve out of the way before a collision, but if the car had DRL's, I would have seen it coming soon enough to stop beforehand.

Again, the DRL's aren't about you; they're about everybody else. This guy / gal should have had headlights on in the rain... but didn't. Not giving people the option to be stupid can save lives.

Whew that was a close one! Been there before, glad it turned out alright. I agree with you completely but in my experience Stupid finds a way no matter what you do.

Norm, You won`t have to retro-fit DRL`s unless you buy a Ford vehicle. Now that Mazda, Nissan and Chrysler have put them on (most) of their 15` Cars, seems like Ford is the last hold out. Guess we have to rant on something else.

Good luck getting them turned off. My 2012 GT had them and I tried almost everything short of rewiring the entire thing. In the s197 its controlled by the smart junction box and I had ford go in with the computer and they couldn't do it
