Not sure why people cover their plates in pictures, I drive around with my plates all day long, have pictures of my car all over FB, and have stated them on this forum. If you are really that worried, cover your plates when you take your car out...

Someone posted this on the Jalopnik Comment section. I agree completely.

As somebody who photographs cars at car shows somewhat frequently, I have two rules:
1) Non-vanity plates get blurred. They're just there for purposes of legality, adding nothing to the car itself, and seeing as how you can glean an address from a license plate number, I blur them. Theft in Chicago happens everywhere - suburbs, city, you name it - so better safe than sorry. It's much easier for a potential thief to look at pictures of meets on the internet so as not to arouse suspicion at the show itself.
2) Vanity plates get left out in the open. They're put out there specifically to be seen, and are meant to be part of the car's aesthetics, so they're left as-is.
Two simple rules. Makes it nice and easy for me; nobody's ever given me shit for following this line of thinking.

I have vanity plates on my Stang. Here it is getting its tint job.

I can completely agree with this ESPECIALLY if you are photographing cars other than your own. For example, at a car show. That is not your plate you are showing but someone else's. For courtesy I would always blur somebody else's plate.

I've done it from time to time with some of my pics. I have a vanity plate so I don't any more. I will do it to someone else's plate if I take a pic of their car. I don't have their permission to show their plate so as a courtesy I blur it.
I have blurred people's faces in my pics. My wife asked that I blur her face in a pic of her in my car simply because she thought it wasn't her best view and I did.
The world is full of a lot of weird things and weird people. What seemed impossible a few years ago is commonplace now. It never hurts to take whatever precautions make you feel more secure. But you've got my plate, you've got my address. Do your best. That's why I carry.

That's what we need... more paranoid people carrying guns.

OK, that's going to get me in trouble.

Here in Canada, its unheard of to carry, unless you belong in a gang.

I won't highjack this thread but self defense is a human right, not paranoia.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled license plate blurring discussion.
