If you're blurring your plate, you're probably also reposting that Fbook crap that says if you don't, you'll have bad luck.
My plate is XFIVE-0 .... Come at me bro.
I'm gonna blur my genitals from now on so no one knows what I'm packin.

...did you know... Smart cops know this and people with half a brain :
If I wanted your address and phone number etc, it takes only a few half witted phone calls to places like:
Dominos pizza, papa johns, Pizza Hut, blockbuster(old days), you name it... Multitude of businesses that you use everyday and have all kinds of your info, I pretend to be you and I have you. If I have your name, I have your address and vice versa.
Believe it or not, fast talking and a good bullshiter can intimidate, coerce or con all your info from most people. Even still...nowadays.

Paranoid people.
:amen:

One guy heard from another guy, most likely on the "internet" that it will keep Crime away… From there, it grew into an 'ole wives' tale' and thus the practice of this 007 Secret agent practice was born.
I agree. People overreact. Guess I'm just not that easily frightened.

I thought since we had a good bit of IT centric folks, my comment would generate a chuckle. Oh well :headbonk:
I Googled "PII" because I had no idea what you were talking about! Glad you posted it.

Let's say you come on the forum and show everyone your long list of modifications that add up to $30k in performance and underhood chrome and have your plates shown. Cool, right?

Now, a few weeks later a slimeball sees your car at the grocery store and thinks "hey, that looks like... Oh, it is "5OBRO"....". Then he can target you from there.
Geez, that's one helluva Doomsday scenario. Kinda takes all the joy out of owning something nice. Might as well keep it in the garage and never venture out!

Facebook is for .... Well, I won't go there... But let me ask you, when you were an active LEO did you have the department address on your state issued ID, or your real home address?

All of my friends with agencies here, state and federal don't have their home address on their ID for the same reason as why I would blur my plate.

Thats not the way theyd come at you. Its not a Western with morality. If they wanted yor car, theyd look up your registered address and wait till you either stupidly talked about where you were going to be on a forum one day or just snatch your car when youre sleeping or taking a dump. I mean the ultinate point is nobody whos halfway intelligent posts heir name and address and their car on a forum regardless of the percentages who might target you. Itd just be utter stupidity

Nope, but it does happen and there is no reason to let all guard down for no reason. The real question should be why does anyone care what my plate is?

Another reason for some of the younger guys or less experienced is that your plate ties you to your online profile and in case of an issue a prosecutor could pull data, no matter how correct to build a bad looking case against you. I know this first hand as a witness in a case some years back where I had to testify about a history of carelessness with a driver that killed someone in a wreckless driving incident. That case was fully warranted, the guy was a real piece of work, but the law doesn't always work the right way and internet stories are often blown up a bit too much to be real evidence.

Most of us used the agency main office address, mainly to make it harder for process servers from trying to serve you at home.
As time and technology progressed, most Leo's came to realize that it's impossible to be anonymous and un-findable. Even having your property in a fictitious name... Today, it's just too easy to get your info unless you're off the grid so to speak.
Just make your possessions and personal situation a tiny bit harder to get than your neighbors. When facing a choice between two targets, one always go for the easiest.

Well, I guess it wouldn't kill me to crop out my plates IF I take pix of my car. What a PITA.

In all my years of driving great cars and sharing photos of them, I've never had a problem. Guess no one liked my car THAT much. Or I was just lucky.

Try this: Call a Ford dealer, take your pick, ask for service. Give them your vin # or your buddy's, tell them youre not getting your service reminders... What address are you freaking people sending them to anyway??!!!
