I was checking air in my tires and noticed this part of my tire that might be bulging out. I've seen the dredded bubble before on tires, but its always been a huge bubble and easily noticeable

One of my OEM Pirelli’s did that too…I noticed it right after a month long 8,000 road trip too…Ended up replacing ‘em with Michelins A/S

Yep, it's an air pocket in the sidewall, usually from either an impact or a compression from a pothole or similar and its at the weakest part of the tire. Time to replace.

Same, at 3k miles. Didn't even realize until i changed tires/wheels. I didn't hit any massive potholes or anything, it was surprising.

Good excuse to ditch the Nittos for something better.

Yes, that's the classic sidewall separation between the cords and the casing that's usually caused by hitting a curbing or something though I think a defect in manufacturing could result in that.

If/when you replace the tire if you can get the tire tech to sow you the inside of the tire, there is probably a tear/cut either in that spot or in the nearby bead area. The air pocket forms from inside so you get the bubble you see as a result. A true separation occurs 180 degrees from the damage, and is very common when someone uses a plug type repair on a tire.

Any suggestions for something comparable or better for cheaper?

I picked these up on sale for cheap and they've worked fine for daily driving, but I am always open to changing tires

Almost anything is better than the Nittos. Those tires are dangerous in the rain even new.

I am sure lots of nittos are trash, but the NT555 G2 tires have done fine in the rain for me so far. Even in the heavy rain that caused bad flooding this year.

I mean, I am not racing in the rain or driving too spirited, also dont have a PD supercharger. But for a little over $600 for all 4, they work fine for daily driving and roll racing. I am not sure I can find them that cheap again, so I am open to suggestions
