Granted I've never driven an MT82, but the horror stories online about notchy shifting and gear lockouts are enough to make me pass. Maybe it's over blown, Mayne it's not. But if the OPs primary reasoning is upgrading to a manual, I'd think Tremec would be more attractive.
I had the MT82. It was fine, but requires some supporting mods like shifter, clutch etc to make it decent. The Tremec just gives more confidence is the best way to describe it plus in stock form the MT82 feels like your a shifting through marshmallows lol.

Listen no one is downplaying the GTs. The Mach 1 is just packaged really nicely, you can make a GT just as good or better its the same platform.....

That being said, when I had my GT it needed some work to get it where I wanted it. Getting the balance for right ratio of road manners to performance can be a challenge (you get rough ride, noisy suspension, etc). I just appreciate how well it does it all out of the box. And as a bonus the appearance, Tremec and Mach 1 name.

Having said that, I can't wait to add a whipple or procharger. I am sure your GT is way fun.
Well said,
I put a ton of money into my 15gt chassis and suspension and although it handled great, I was always chasing noises, never as good as from factory.
Just like a GT500 will always be a better put together supercharged car than you can build.
But on the other hand, when I put an MGW shifter in to replace my stock MT82 , night and day difference without any negatives.
The MT82 was a mess even after I changed the fluid to the BG synchro.

See, I don't you should have to change out the clutch and shifter to make it "decent". But that's just me.

For those of you following along 😎

Test drove a M1 finally, none HP, but there aren't any manual HP M1's within my drive-able area.

The M1 is very refined feeling, although samey, it's more of a difference than I expected. The Tremec 6-speed definitely feels "beefier" the return spring is much stiffer and the gear engagements are much firmer. The clutch feel was surprisingly different to the mt-82 in the roush I drove. Not sure how to explain the difference, but it felt more confident without being "bitey". The M1 felt very flat and planted over all compared to my car, it just feels more rigid, not sure if that is chassis or suspension or both. Lastly aesthetically I think the M1 is just beautiful, but I'm a sucker for badging. The car overall just seems to have more character, but I might just be getting caught up in "oooh shiny!!!!".

In the end I think the manual GT would be just fine, but I'm no pro driver so what do I know. However I find the M1 to feel special, and aesthetically I find it more pleasing. The improvements in handling, better manual over the GT, along with the limited nature of the M1, the parts bin build having blood from the GT, Bullet, and Shelby/s, and the aesthetics I think the M1 is the direction I want to go. So I put in an offer on the M1 I drove this afternoon. We'll see where that goes. If I manage to get a deal worked out I'll be sure to post up. If I get scared off at some point I'll also update this post.

This is exactly how I felt after driving mine. Congrats 👏🏻

What color?

As subtle as the M1 package is compared to a GT, in its totality it completely changes the car from a driver perspective.
GT’s are great. No doubt. But for a showroom package the M1 is a special car.
I just wish the fuel tank was maybe 3 gals bigger or so. But that’s a general GT+ Mustang complaint exacerbated by driving in a spirited manner.
Honestly having driven the GT350’which I love BTW, my M1 has that same special feel to it.

Not sure if it would be worth upgrading to a Mach 1 if you're not going to be taking it to the road course. On the other hand it would definitely be worth trading for a manual car if that's what you enjoy. Even if the 10r80 was 4x faster than an mt82 I still wouldn't take a 10spd for free. I've tried SSs, GTs, and even a ZL1 with a 10 speed and it is the most fun-crushing jerkey ass transmission I've ever driven. Real fast in a straight line at WOT though 🤷‍♂️

Would take 10spd for free? That will hurt some feelings LOL
