Don't trade, it will cost you the same, if not more money loss in the end.

You will lost your butt on trade....instead use that money to get a family car and keep the Mustang at the same time.

My cousin had a baby last year and he traded in his Mustang for a fully loaded Focus because it was more "practical and responsible." Saw him at Christmas last year and he really regretted getting rid of his car.

My mother drove mustangs all throughout the 70s and 80s until she had me and she said she should have just kept getting mustangs. She told my cousin not to make the same mistake.

The way I see it, a baby seat fits in the back and any child can fit back there comfortably until their teens and I'm sure by then you will have moved on from this car. The car has very good crash safety ratings and should be very reliable. Use the wife's car when its needed.

Only reason I can see for trading it in would be to save on gas money and insurance. Not sure what your loss would be in a trade in for a new car.

Getting my infant son in and out of the WRX was a helluva lot easier than getting him in and out of the 335i convertible (unless the top was down, LOL). I can't imagine having to use a coupe with infants/toddlers in carseats. We have the Infiniti SUV and an old beater Toyota Avalon that we use for the kids, and it makes life a lot easier. Also, I don't have to worry about them messing up the Mustang with their pee/poop/vomit/crumbs/milk/boogers/feet/etc etc etc!

A friend has two toddler age kids and a V6 2016 Mustang. That is their only car and seem to make it work fine for their needs. With that said, I came to the GT from a 15 WRX. I loved the way it drove and it had plenty of power for what it was. It also mixed that with roughly 26mpg (combined) with me driving it like I stole it most of the time. On the open road I got closer to 29mpg (cruising speed 80ish).

Unfortunately, that is all the positives I can give you. Subaru is charging more for a car that they build poorly and has many known issues. They have updated ECU programming that is supposed to help keep the engine from grenading. The dealers will only reflash your ECU if you are having issues, even though its a documented TSB issue.

The car itself was a rattle bucket. It rattled worse than my previous 2004 WRX. If you are serious about making the switch, check out www.nasioc.com for the WRX forum. Their used to be a 500+ page thread on the rattles alone. My American made Mustang is weirdly a better built car IMHO.

I've owned 3 STi's. 2005, 2005 and 2013. When I was shopping for my 16 GT, I was considering the WRX. If I had kids and was married, I'd be in a WRX, and have zero regrets. It's more practical, just as sporty around town, and still fun while being more economical.

Go test drive one.

With the loss on trade, the loss on the tax you already paid, the new tax you would pay and more dealership fees, you should keep the car.

What do you owe? Can you sell on your own? A rear facing car seat will be a pretty big pain to get in and out of. I didn't get my mustang until my son could sit in a forward facing seat.

WRX = compact sedan.
It is not that roomy inside. I would choose medium to full size for kids

WRX is a awesome car as well but don't see you saving much if any money with one. They aren't great on gas and the insurance will run you more because they are known for being teenage hot rods now. Want to save gas I will trade you my ecoboost for your gt hahah :) Jokes aside I agree with other posters above keep the mustang and use another car for winter and to haul the baby around.

My son just turned 16 today and drove off to achool himself. I've been where you are. I had to sacrifice my S2000's back in 2000 when my first was born.

Here are some cars I bought and drove with the kids that I could still enjoy:

Lexus IS350
WRX Sti
Acura TL Type S
Acura TSX
Honda Accord V6 Touring

I would suggest any of thee 4 doors for driving them around.

They WRX may last you a few years, but you will run out of space fast.

Make sure your *other* car (my wifes) is a bigger car. She started with a CRV (as babies) and then went to an Acura MDX, Honda Pilot and now a Toyota Sequoia.

With my son driving, shes going to move a lot smaller now. Probably a small SUV like a CRX again.

Its family time my friend, but you car still drive a nice 4 door sports sedan.

All I can say is that every house needs a fun car. I managed to keep a toy car during the kid years and stayed married at the same time.

Guess I am a lucky guy!

I'd get the WRX for the long run. The resale values on those subarus are rock solid.
Yep. I bought my 2012 for $24k (not counting tax/license). Drove it for 2 years, then sold it for $22k.
