Tips for new mustang owner?

Hi all!

I just brought home my Mustang today and haven't even washed it yet! I was just looking for some general tips and improvement advice anyone can give me since this is my first major car purchase. Things I have plan to do so far:

_Get an all weather mat for the snow season.
_Get a Sto-n-Sho for front plate.
_Stay below 4500 RPM for the first 1000 miles?


Any other advice? I heard about wraps help keep your paint unscratched but any advice is greatly appreciated.

What did you wish you would have known when you first got your car?

I ordered the sto n show front plate from CJ pony

I would invest in some nice car washing supplies from either Adams Polishes or Chemical Guys (Car Shampoo, Clay Bar, Detailer Spray, Wax and Wheel Cleaner)

The clear bra or wraps do help but only for a limited time, Im skipping this option and just going to maintain my car by waxing it quarterly

As for keeping the paint in good condition, get a good proper detail on it. Getting a good proper detail on it the first time will make it much easier to maintain cleanliness everytime. It also means your car will always look its best.

If you dont know much about detailing, look for professional auto detailers in your area. Dont ask you dealership to do it, as most dont specialize in it.

2 buckets
grit guard
PH balanced soap
a wool wash mit
a pack of micro fibers
a microfiber drying towel
a wax of youre choosing

Hi,

Just a few questions, since I don't know anything about detailing, should I bring my car in for a professional detailer?

I went to autozone yesterday and bought a car soap and spray-on wax and went to work. First I rinsed the car and washed in a swirly motion with one of those generic bright colored soap mixed with water. After rinsing, I dried it with a microfiber towel. Applied spray-on wax and started buffing with a microfiber towel in a swirl motion. After that, I cleaned the windows with a rain-x cleaner+protectant. I cleaned the wheels with a specific wheel cleaning spray. Overall the car looks pretty clean.

My question is, is this all that is required to keep the car looking great? I don't mind taking it to an auto detailer but prefer to not spend buttloads of money if I can just do it by myself.

I have been watching some detailing tutorials but most of those require equipment (rotary buffer) that I don't have.

You should invest in some carnauba wax that's applied by hand. Waxing could be done every 6 months or so. It's good to clay your car followed by a wax and polish on an infrequent basis (6-12 months, but really it depends on where you drive and how your car's exterior feels) to remove debris that can bed itself over time.

But that's it, really. Keep up routine maintenance and you won't need any big time detailing work. Keep her out of the sun as much as possible to avoid increased aging with the paint, headlights, brightwork, etc.

I personally don't have any kind of expert advice on the subject, just the basic guidelines. Here's a great thread with plenty of suggestions from experienced detailers!
