When I removed the OEM front brake pads, there was two metal sheets in the back :
One fixed onto the pad itself (can't remove it), and another one that can be freely removed.

For those who did the change to Z26 pads, did you reinstall that metal sheet between the piston and the brake pad ? (it fits perfectly the Z26 pad as well). Or just the pad ?

Thanks !

Didn't use Z26 per se but the shim you're talking about should be from the OEM pads and shouldn't be reused. If memory serves well, Z26's come with either a metal or a rubber shim, use that.

PS: Make sure to clean the hardware (pins, bracket, etc) before reinstalling and also clean that groove inside the caliper (see attached photo)

Ok. I cleaned all this as well. I was asking because it was squeaking a bit since I move to Z26. So I figure it out it could be that.
I just removed the metal sheets and now it squeaks like hell (only at low speed and going forward). Going backwards does nothing.

Maybe I should break-in them again...

Thoughts ?

Thx !

Do the instructions say to break them in? If they do, do it. Otherwise they’ll break in from normal driving

Yes it does.
I did it when I first installed them with the metal sheet behind.

I really think I should do it again. Will wait for some dry day this week :)

That's interesting! Actually while removing the metal sheet I realized that the Powerstop spring on one side was..... Gone! I replaced it with the old one.
Will do the same on the other side before breaking in the pads again.

Quick update : While removing the metal sheets behind the pad I put some regular brake grease.
In addition to that, a few hard breakings and the squeaking is *completely* gone.

Thanks everyone for the inputs !

This might be besides the point but do keep in mind that grease has the tendency of collecting (brake) dust like a freaking magnet.

Glad you fixed it tho
