So why did Ford put a staggered setup with 19x9.5/255s on the front of the base Mach 1?

There‘s something about your car that I really like…

What about if us non-HP Y-wheel guys went to a square setup with the 275/40R 19's in the front as well? Or would that be a bad idea? Or look silly?

This is what I just sent everyone a picture of. Those RTR's are 19x9.5
The 9.5 front and 10.5 rear width of the non-HP wheels should not change the sidewalls height IMO but mabe I'm wrong

But could you run a 275/40/19 on front with the stock non hp front rim without spacers?
Also my 19 GT PP1 has 9 inch rims on front. Would it need a spacer to run a 275/40/19 on front?

No spacers needed. You would be fine

It looks great, and that front rim is a 19 x 9.5? I was originally thinking of putting the same rim as the rear, so 19 x 10's. But keeping the 9.5 means saving money and no extra weight. Did you notice it driving any different or it just looks cool?

These are all 9.5" wheels
Car rides and handles great, bumps aren't as harsh.
RTR Tech 7 wheels are much light than stock.
Also these are Continental DWS Sport all season tires for winter use.

It couldn’t just be the $5/car they’d save. It just seems like it would have much simpler just to go square with 19x10/275s all around.

My reason for wondering is that at some point I may look into custom wheels for my ‘23s and 19x10 opens up the choices and becomes rotatable I suppose. But I’m not interested in doing anything to overcome rubbing, clearance issues or needing spacers or other mods, etc.

And before someone asks why not go bigger, as long as I stay NA I’m perfectly happy with the looks and handling of the stock size setup.

I’m obviously missing something so sorry for the dumbassery but the last time I had to think about wheel and tire fitment was going up to an 8”x15” American mag with a set of grooved Denman 8.55 ambulance tires. That oughta tell you something!
I think it is more “cool” factor. I think all cars with ‘performance specs” get a staggered. It makes a little more sense on the HP because fitting 11s in front can be done but you need spacers and it pokes out even more. I would much rather have a 10” sq setup on my car, in fact I’m about to do that for my track wheels.

When going from 255/40/19 front, 275/40/19 rear to a 275/40/19 square, what do you do about the .63 lift in the front from the taller front tire? I wouldn't want my car to sit any higher in front because the rake would look goofy in my opinion. I like that the front would scrape less though.
.63 is the diameter change, your ride height would only change by half of that.

I hadn’t really considered this so I’m glad it came up. I very much like the look of the slight rake the car has now from rear to front and like 19gtaz I wouldn’t want to change it. Between that and the additional oversteer “protection” built in to the factory staggered setup maybe it’s advisable for me to stick with the 19x9.5/255s.

After only a real quick look around at custom wheels it looks like the choice in 19s is pretty slim. Most of the stuff I like seems to be 20s. I’m sure when I get more serious I can find something I like in a 19 but it’s not gonna be cheap. I really like these but the closest they come is a 19x11. https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/th...-with-modern-muscle-m6r-forged-wheels.192649/. Like most things, somebody will probably make a set of 19x9.5/19x10s if I’m willing to pay up. Oh well, no rush.

I just went from used 255's to brand new 275s and it lifted the front .375".
Did you keep the 40 profile? 275/35 give you the exact same diameter as the 255/40.

the factory wheels are built to be a lot more durable than aftermarket which is why they are heavier. the smaller tires in the front are likely to make the car as quiet and easy to steer on crappy roads. wider the tire the more it wants to wander. the PP cars are already noisy as hell.

ford overbuilds them because people smack curbs and hit potholes.

I wish i could get a set of 19x10's that look like my forged PP wheels but such is life.

I want to run 275/40/19's al the way around and steeda dual rate springs so the car shouldn't be lowered much at all but visually it'll look a bit lower and ride a little better with more sidewall up front.

Oakley, in so doing wouldn‘t you lose that slight but visible rear to front rake that’s present with the stock 255s up front?

I guess it’s a little like the yellow shipping spacers. I’ve had 3 new 22-23s now where the sorry-azz PDI “techs” were either too lazy or too stupid to remove them and I took delivery with them in place. Not a huge difference but I thought the cars looked better when they came out.
